When my A/C went out early Sunday night I was very pessimistic in that I would have to pay triple the charges to get someone out to fix it on a weekend or that I could get anyone out at all. After calling Mary with Austin Air Rescue Calvin the technician was at my hous less that 2 hours after making the call. Calvin was very courteous and thourough and explained exactly what was wrong with my unit and even checked other areas of the system just to make sure that what he was fixing was the only problem. Calvin did not have the right part on his truck to make the permanent fix on Sunday, however was able to make a temporary fix with what he had on the vehicle and came early Monday morning to make the permanent fix. My dealings with this company was pleasent in every step. What was most surpising and pleasing was when I got the final bill. I almost passed out...not because it was high, but because it was less than half what I expected to pay. After Calvin left the house my wife and I made the desicion that Austin Air Rescue will now be our first call for all our HVAC problems and will be the first company I recomend to friends having HVAC issues. After working with other HVAC repair companies it was refreshing to deal with one that is very professional and courteous....
Pros: will come on weekend and gives a time that tech will be on scene
Cons: did not have any

Well, when we were having AC problems, I found a card from this company and checked online for reviews. Based on the reviews here I went ahead and called this company (3 weeks back). Personally, I believe that was a big mistake. I had no idea about AC stuff then, and relied on this site to make a decision, so figured I should share my experience with others. Impression: Austin Air Rescue (AAR) does give you a standard price, but my impression is their prices are much higher than other and have questionable ethics. Some things to think about. 1. AAR charges $69.00 to send a tech to your home (just to send a tech, not the cost of a real diagnosis) 2. If there is a leak there is an additional fee 3. AAR charges $70 per-lb for Puron/Freon (Christianson charges $39 in comparison, street value is $10 per-lb) 4. The amount of refrigerant in your system is proportional to the pressure at the compressor. So if a tech comes for a house call, make sure you ask the tech to show what’s the recommended pressure (from manufacturer), and refrigerant weight and what is the current pressure. Amount you need = (Rec. Pressure - Cur. Pressure)/(Rec. Pressure) * (Rec. Refrigerant weight ) Example, if Rec. Pressure is 320, current pressure is 280, and Rec. Ref. weight is 8 lb, you are missing 1 lb. More detail: We had a leak in our AC systems, AAR came said there is not enough Puron. The tech Chris said most probably there is a leak. But, refused to do a leak check (I was not asking him to do a leak check for free), claiming he was too busy. He said he needs to come back again to do a leak check. Instead he simply recharged the system without giving mea quote ahead of time. Later charged me $300 dollars (for 4 lb of Puron + $69.00 service call fee). I am not even sure whether they really did put 4 lb (2 lb per AC). It’s bad enough that AAR charges twice as much as any other HVAC company for R410, who in the world charges an AC system without fixing a leak?
Pros: Will come on time
Cons: Questionable ethics, high prices
