A surprising find in an out-of-the-way 'hood.
Magnolia is off the beaten path for most Seattleites, but this wine bar in Magnolia Village is worth a trip west. With photography and wine bottles aligning the walls and an L-shaped bar perfectly set up for face-to-face time with the savvy proprietors, Swirl provides a laid-back yet classy vibe that's hard to find at many other wine bars around town.
Wines by the glass are selected on a rotating basis, often including local wineries, and bottles are available for purchase as well. The small plates menu is simple but well-executed, with shareable nibbles like truffle popcorn and a mix-and-match charcuterie plate. Not to miss are the Marcona almonds, tossed with salt, truffle oil and rosemary to order.
Truffle popcorn and soups are amazing.... ..and the wine is great too. They need to add a few plants, rugs or larger artwork to warm the place up more (too beige and bare), and some more comfy chairs (the folding chairs aren't too comfy) and then I would give them 5 stars. Service, food and wine selections are great. A much needed addition to the Magnolia village.
