“Cheers” of the 21st century!
by NWHiker at Citysearch
It is the “Cheers” of the 21st century – just replace the beer with exercise. It is where everybody knows your name and you just like to hangout while drenched in sweat. It has the laidback, friendly, upbeat atmosphere but not in a Richards Simmons kind of way. Don’t expect uptight trainers in matching uniforms…if you want that find another studio. If you are looking for a trainer that is in great shape but is not all about bean sprouts and tofu then you have come to my kind of place. I am not perfect and nor are these trainers – but they are sticklers for form and push you so that you see results (10 pounds lost in a month, more toned muscle than I have had in my life, energy that I thought was lost to my 20’s, and new found confidence to boot). Let me be real, I would have never in my wildest imagination would even consider participating in a 5k race, now I can’t wait! The flexible scheduling and very reasonable cost opens the door for anyone who has said they don’t have time and/or the money to work with a personal trainer (heck, I work full time and go to grad school which means I have no time or money). I actually look forward to heading to the studio. Yes, Darren enjoys torturing us, but I find myself laughing more when I am working out than when I am watching a Ben Stiller movie. But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

Great Workout Facility, Great Trainers, Friendly Atmosphere

I have been going to Define Fitness for one year now. I always thought that having a personal trainier was a waste of money, but I would never work out on my own so I decided to give it a chance. Plus, this is semi-private so the cost is less. It is definitely worth the money. Janelle makes it fun. She is enthusiastic, caring, and challenging. She changes the routine almost every time so I never get bored. She tailors the workout specifically for my body type and energy level. The studio is definitely worth trying.

Good People, Good Workout, Great Price $

My girlfriend and I wanted to start working out again but didnt want to try 24 hour again b/c we dont really like to go to a packed gym with a bunch of people that we felt judged by. We wanted to find a place where we could be dedicated to getting ourselves in shape and not be self conscious during the process. This has helped us improve our health, our strength, balance & ability to set goals together and achieve them as a team. I have increased my bench press from 85 lbs to 225 lbs in 3 months and my girlfriend went from not being able to do a single "real" pushup, to doing 30 without rest. B/C of the price and environment we're finally consistent with our workouts and we've seen our best results ever. Darren is accomodating and flexible with his availability and workout plan and its been great working out with him. If you are thinking of getting started again or trading gyms/trainers, I'd recommend trying Define Fitness.
- Pros: group atmosphere, affordable, results, no membership needed
- Cons: location for us - we live in deep issaquah but make the drive - gas prices hurt but oh well.
A true definition of fitness

Define Fitness is a really great studio. It?s not the overcrowded meat market that Bally's or 24 hour fitness can be. Darren and Janelle are both really gifted trainers both are energetic and outgoing and really are invested in their client?s fitness goals, I can?t say enough about how great they are. I always felt like they cared about me and my health and not just the check I wrote each month. It?s also a great social environment, everyone is supportive. I never felt awkward or uncomfortable or like I was being judged for not being fit by the trainers or the other clients. They will work with you on nutrition, fitness, flexibility, and often go far beyond client expectations, providing motivational tools, informational materials, and support.
Define Fitness is simply the best

I never thought I would look forward to working out with such genuine enthusiasm! Over the years I've tried a lot of different options in an effort to stay fit...everything from yoga and Pilates classes to various work out dvd's at home and very expensive gym memberships. Although I did pretty well with them the one thing I truly wanted was a sense of commitment to a program and knew that what I was lacking was encouragement. A friend suggested I try her personal trainer, Janelle Miller, and a year later I'm more eager to be there than ever. I especially like the "boutique" gym atmosphere where there are usually two trainers working with 2-3 people at a time. My sweat-mates and I have developed a sense of camaraderie and have a lot of fun during our work outs. Janelle is very attuned with our individual needs and is especially knowledgeable in nutrition and physiology, always keeping our sessions fresh and being supportive. I've had such great results and consider my time at Define a privilege and a priority. Janelle is simply the best and has made my busy life better!
