Tips for Saffron Grill

July 09, 2012

I wager I have found the best Indian Restaurant in the entire state of Washington: Saffron Grill in Northgate! The food is YUM, the price quite affordable, the atmosphere refined and the service superior. With delighted anticipation I await my next opportunity to taste of their excellent menu. Well worth the short jaunt from I-5. :)

Terrible!!. We had a terrible experience - food was awful! Drinks watered down or just plain tasted funny. Too many spices, runny asauces & the place was DIRTY! Don't go here!!!

Best Service and Indian food In Seattle!. Yes Best Service and Indian food In Seattle!

I have been coming for 11 years and I have never been disappointed everything on the menu is served not only with style but also with flavors that keep you wanting more!

I have known the owner for as long as I have been coming to their old place in the u-district don't believe the negative reviews they are way off.

Trust me get there eat, enjoy and you will make it a long tradition like I have.

I now drive 45 miles just to get my Indian food fix. The places by my home don't have the flavors or service. I am sad soon I will be deploying with my wife in the NAVY. Please send Saffron care packages ;-)

Thank you my friend for having such a great place to eat

TIKKA WINGS to DIE For!. Oh! The TIKKA WINGS with garlic sauce, a bit of heaven for your mouth! Tender, smokey, and succulent, the taste of an artful tandor master's for your supreme pleasure. To prevent from inhaling the wings too fast, break off a fresh-baked piece of Garlic Naan and dip it in the contrast of vibrant green cilantro pesto and a bright tamarind combo sauce. A bite of pungent mango chutney, a sip from a Mango Lassi, and I'm good to go to devour the other delectable delights on the menu.

Steeped in aromatic spices, the Butter Chicken is a spicy delight frought fragrant with cinnamon, cardamon, and peppery overtones. It's faithful companion and perfect coupling with a side of saffrony bastmati rice.

Come for the Wings, stay for the Baklava! I know I have. I've been going since 1992. It's been consistent comfort food and service. Different name (use to be Cedars), new digs (better and chic), with a wonderful tenure of flavor and quality that I keep coming home to.

Terrible Vegetarian Indian Food. ***VEGETARIANS BEWARE***. We dined here for family dinner. Me and my girlfriend are both Vegetarians and Eat a lot of Indian food. As for The Vegetarian Cuisine at Saffron Grill, the food was lifeless, practically flavorless and the three vegetarian dishes we had all tasted exactly the same with small additions like green peppers or mangoes.

To top it off, We are almost certain that the Vegetarian Pakoras contained some sort of fish (Biting into the pakoras tasted like a little fish fillet). Possibly contained Fish oil or was fried in the same Oil as their Fish and Chips. ***Vegetarians Beware***

If you truly enjoy Indian food and have dined at other Indian restaurants you would most likely prefer the Maharaja in West Seattle (By far the best Indian food I've found in the Seattle area as of yet, and I've ate at approximately 20 Indian restaurants so I do give other restaurants a chance). Also the Taj Palace in Bellevue has AMAZING Aloo Ghobi. Just Remember that there are options over this EXTREMELY americanized Indian Food.

The service was excellent so I had to give them atleast one star, I'm just hoping this Review saves some like minded Vegetarians from a terrible dining experience.

Great Indian/Mediteranean. A friend has been raving about the place. Looks smart outside & inside. We were greeted by the owner. Friendly service. Started with a sampler plate of Bab Ganouj, Hummus, Grape Leaves and Falafel, salad & pita breat. The Baba Ganouj was fantastic - a delicate smokey flavor. Main courses Shish Tawook - a skewer of 5 pieces of chicken & peppers on a bed of rice with some veggies, & more Falafel (which went home). Deserts yummie & bottomless chai tea..

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful. Amazing Curry! I don't even like curry and this changed my mind. Hummus is good as well...When I close my eyes I can still taste it!

Great Indian Food. Fabulous tandoori food as well as curries. And there is a large section of Indian vegetarian dishes. I did not try the Mediterranean section of the menu.

I've eaten here eight times in a row (since I was staying at a nearby hotel), each time trying a different dish. Everything I've tried has been top-notch.

The tandoori scallops are my favorite so far. Absolutely delicious.

I was surprised by the relatively rare one and two-star scores for this place. So I read them and feel I need to respond.

First, the constantly ringing bell issue from javachix has been fixed. I've never heard the cook's bell ring more than twice in a row. The owner seems to have read that review and put a stop to it. But as any restaurant people would know, the first priority in a restaurant is to get food from the kitchen to the customer as fast as possible.

Second, most of the poor reviews had something to do with the owner's relationship with the staff being contentious. I've never witnessed that in my eight visits.

Again, I think the owner is responding to the reviews that are posted here - or has at least mellowed out.

I don't have any experience with using coupons so I can't address that comment by northseattlegirl.

The late-night issue seems to be a case of this website having posted the wrong hours (until midnight). It's open until 10 and that's what their door sign says.

Warm Service, Great Food. We have enjoyed the wonderful food and the friendly and courteous staff for quite some time. The cuisine and bottomless chai are delicious. The staff and service always very warm and friendly. We highly recommend Saffron Grille for a nice, reasonably-priced evening out.
