Waiting in line for brunch is overrated! Gainsbourg is overlooked for Brunch so that's where you should get you eggs on! Extra bonus, they have a build your own Bloody menu! This place ROCKS!
Swanky French Bar.
Swanky French bar which is super fab. Very upscale and nice. Drinks are very stiff, food was just so-so but the drinks make up for it.
The outside patio area is super nice on hot summer nights. Everyone is either out on the patio or walking by, which makes this a hot place to be.
We were there on a night they had a band playing, and my only complaint was that is was wayyyyy too loud
Service is super slow and they don't have waitresses that come out to the patio, so you have to go inside to order.
Great late-night happy hour which starts at 11pm and is every night including weekends!!!
Citysearch Editorial Review. With the menu of a Paris street-corner bistro and a beer list full of Belgian brews, Gainsbourg brings a little bit of the Europe to the Greenwood area. The exposed brick walls are trimmed with heavy curtains, loaning a luxurious feel to the long, narrow room. Patrons have the choice of the bar, a few sparsely placed tables and the high-backed booths, which give an intimate illusion of privacy. Black and white movies play on the television screens, but the real treats lie in the tiny but open kitchen that runs parallel to the bar. The menu of small plates is a best-of list of Parisian classics, from perfectly presented, garlic-saturated escargot to steak frites. A visit to Gainsbourg is only properly rounded out with a sampling from the extensive Belgian beer lists and a quick dive into the various absinthes offered.
Drop the attitude. You're in Greenwood NOT France..
I have tried really hard to like this place. The steak is awesome when prepared properly and the menu is outstanding. The atmosphere is funky and cool.
I have taken people here several times and referred lots of others but at this point I'm done being embarrassed by my recommendation. The servers apparently think they ARE in France serving stupid Americans. They are lazy, indifferent and incompetent with one or two exceptions. Newsflash, you live in Seattle and your just another server. Get over yourselves. We ordered the steak again last night and weren't asked for preparation instructions, when it finally came out (a long wait indeed with our empty drinks) they were beyond well done, perhaps burned to a crisp would be more accurate. Paying out took forever because our server was busy flirting and snacking. We took the cards inside after a long wait and still she took another 20 minutes. We had 5 people with us that were new customers and they, as well as we, are customers no more. This scenario has played out more often than not and we have been fools for hoping it would get better. The place sure is pretty though.
Wish I could love this place. I like the small plates, and most of the food is really good here. Several of the cocktails are good too, but the execution is inconsistent. When I mentioned that the second Edith Piaf I ordered was very sour, the server begrudgingly took it back and made a slight adjustment, but not without making it clear that this was beneath her. This is typical of the attitude of the servers here. This also comes up when you order absinthe. Sometimes they feel like giving you the sugar and the absinthe spoon, and sometimes they can't be bothered. If this place just replaced a couple of the service staff, it would easily be one of my favorites.
To answer the review from kijisdh. I wanted to respond to the review by kijisdh. My husband wrote that review. Everyone on our trivia team would vouch for us - WE NEVER PULLED A SODA OUT OF OUR BACKPACK. We were accused by the waiter of something we never did. That was the worst part of it. So get your facts straight you a**hole making judgements.
great food. I'm a regular at trivia night at the Northside Grill. It's always really well run and the food is great. I was shocked to read the last review. Surprisingly I did see the interaction between the staff and these customers and all I can say is shame on you for writing that review. All the staff was asking for is that customers don't ask for a glass of ice then pull a soda out of their backpack like this couple had done. These guys must be so cheap. Life is short dude, live it up. I recommend this trivia spot and always have a good time.
Not worth the visit.
We originally attended this restaurant for the trivia quiz master after our other local haunt closed down. The food was never quite palatable - either too dry, over / under done. Still, we were happy to frequent a local business to just have a drink or desert. Contrary to the other reviews out there, the food is not worthy of the 5 star reviews planted on *every* site.
The surprise $10 minimum PER PERSON for trivia Tuesday nights just isn't worth it for mediocre food, an argumentative owner, and 80 degree wine.
Our new local hang out. My husband and I tried this place on a Sunday afternoon after reading the citysearch reviews--wanted some place causual close to home. We loved it and would have driven across town if necessary! Very reasonably priced wine list--not extensive but more than adequate. Good selection of beers. We ordered a bottle of wine and tried three appetizers--Baywak (sp), Kaafouk, and Garlic Shrimp. All were delicious! My husband enjoyed the shrimp so much that he ordered another plate. We are looking forward to going back this week and trying an entree. Service was professional. I think we have found a new hang out...
Fantastic food. My husband and I have been here twice. Both times the food and service were great! We especially like the Morrocan Fish and Chips as well as the Kefta sandwich. There are alot of restaurants on Greenwood, but this one really stands out.
Something for everybody, no matter what your tastes.
My wife and I live in Greenwood, and the Northside Grill is our favorite local hangout. There are a few items on the menu that never fail to please. For starters - the owner, Imad, makes the best French Dip on the planet. The beef is tender, the rolls are toasted just right, and the 'jus' it comes with is seasoned to perfection - but you won't need it, cause the sandwich is juicy and delicious on its own. You can, however, use the jus to soak the french fries - which taste just like fries ought to taste. I also highly recommend the lamb Kefta Plate, the Merguez sandwich, or the Fish & Chips. They've got a couple of great beers on tap, and some great wines and deserts. My wife and her friends like to hang out in the sofa area in the back and share a big p0t of mint tea. The place has free wi-fi, some truly gorgeous art on the walls, and they regularly have great live music.
Did I mention the Garlic Prawns appetizer? Freaking _sweet_! Greenwood has some great little restaurants, but this is the one we keep coming back to. You really have to check it out - these guys really know what they're doing.
