Tips for Northgate Veterinary Clinic

September 09, 2012

I give my highest recommendation to Dr. Britt Halse and Northgate Veterinary Clinic! NGVC has been caring for my two blue heeler dogs for close to 10 years. I always get a warm welcome when I come in the door and the most prompt, professional service, whether I have an appointment or an emergency.

Dr. Halse cared for my 16-year-old blue heeler at the end of his life. At my request, she provided extensive diagnostic evaluations and treatment (and always gently offered the option not to treat him), and very empathetically cared for our entire family when it was time to say goodbye to him. For the three weeks he was sick, Dr. Halse called me every single day to check on him. When we knew we had to put him to sleep, we brought him to the clinic as they were closing. Dr. Halse told us we could be with him until midnight if we wanted to--she would stay and wait with us until we were ready. She even gave him sedation in the car so he didn't have to be stressed going into the clinic. Dr. Halse was so phenomenal throughout the entire process, so genuinely loving our pets, and taking care of the human experience as well. She is always positive, generous, responsive, understanding, smart, and funny--she is hands-down the best veterinarian we have ever had!

Chelsea Marubayashi, the veterinary assistant, spent days with my dog, calming him and giving him love and excellent medical care. Dr. Emi Baxter took care of Jo-Jo for most of his life, and kept him so happy and healthy that he lived to be 16! Dr. Baxter always provides us with exceptional care, and both Drs. Halse and Baxter always emphasize that they want our dogs to be as comfortable as they can through any procedure, exam or test; they care about the physical and emotional experience of the pet first. I could go on and on about examples of NGVC providing superior veterinary care, customer service, and genuine love for our pets! We have endless trust in Dr. Halse and NGVC, and if you live even remotely close to Seattle, I wouldn't take your pets anywhere else!

Excellent care. We took our cat who initially was feral to Northgate vets for eleven years. They were the only ones at the time that would accept an unruly cat!

We have had nothing but exceptional care ,professionalism and attention to detail from the staff, technicians and the vets especially Dr Phillips.

Our cat had all his routine checks ,teeth cleaned , tendonitis and hypertension treated [they have an ultrasound to check your animals bloodpressure ] and eventually cancer .Our cat lived several months longer than anticipated with prophylactic care under Dr Phillips. That was our chosen route not to be aggressive with treatment though those options were offered.

When it was time for our beloved cat to rest ,we received exceptional care with great sensitivity .

Good Service. My dog is elderly with medical issues. I newly moved in the area and was looking for a clinic that is caring and can provide emergency service (24/7) similar to service I came from. They don't have 24/7 in-house but they're affiliated with another clinic that can provide that service. The staff were friendly; they listened to my concerns; they recorded my observation on chart/file correctly; the doctors listened, talked me through health and care issues, and they followed up. Tests were recommendations I either decided to do or not. It depends on your comfort level of risk whether you want to go for additional tests. Sometimes all the tests can do is tell you what health issue it is not.

Avoid at all cost.. This is the second time I've accompanied my partner to this clinic, and we won't be coming back. She has now been asked at least 4 times for her dog's previous records, and even been blatantly lied to about speaking to her dog's previous clinic. Every employee failed at organization; the same questions were asked over and over again, the same expensive tests were ordered again after coming back without problems (noting "good practice" as the reasoning after questioned about it) and almost all staff members were incredibly rude until it was time to sell another unnecessary test. It's truly sad when a business exploits their customers' love for their pets to sell more, and I would never trust these people with my loved ones.

ANOTHER CLINIC MIGHT HAVE MORE TIME TO CARE..... After much thought, I blame my choice of this vet clinic as the primary reason my cat is dead. I took my 10 year old cat in on a Thursday before a three day weekend when the primary doctor "Smalley" was taking the next 4 days off. My cat had a blockage in his intestine and should have been operated on that day. Doctor "Smalley" turned my cat over to a doctor "Baxter" who finally called me late the next day. She said she would call me right back to confirm arrangements for surgery on the next morning, but then she never called back. After I called and left two messages, I finally got a call back Saturday evening and all she had to say is that they could fit my cat in on Tuesday after the holiday. In hindsight, it seems like doctor "Baxter" dragged her heels, either because she was too busy to care or maybe because they couldn't arrange for surgery until after the holiday and didn't want my business to go to a 24/7 clinic? Doctor "Smalley" finally operated on my cat on Tuesday, five days later, and even though he said he would call right after the surgery, he didn't. I didn't receive a call to update me until it was too late. My cat died. I believe in my heart that he would still be here if I took him to an emergency 24/7 clinic over the weekend that could have performed the emergency surgery. Today I received the bill for the surgery with no note or card or anything, just an invoice with a request to provide feedback on citysearch... I think a short note with some sort of condolances should be a gesture that any good vet would take the time to do - because their heart would demand it. I was left with the feeling that neither of these "doctors" is in this business for the right reasons. And if you love your pet, I think you should find someone else to care for it. It just might not be convenient for this clinic to provide your pet with the care it needs.

Friendly, efficient, helpful!. I walked into Northgate Vet on a Saturday afternoon, to see if they had any openings. They fit me in same day, even though the clinic was bustling with activity and pets. They were so friendly to my cat Spiderman, and even took a Halloween picture! The Doctor was very knowledgable and got Spiderman feeling better and looking himself the next day! My favorite part is the Pet Portal online account they set me up with for free! They let me know that I could even refill my pet's prescricption online and it's cheaper! It's also another great way to communicate with the Doctor about Spiderman's condition. I highly reccommend this clinic to anyone who is looking for a clinic that is great with pets, efficient with healthcare, and makes it a fun and positive experience!
