Tips for Shimmer Beauty Bar

4.0
January 15, 2010

Love the Lashes. I have sparse, short, straight lashes and was turned on to lash extensions by winning a certificate to another place that shall remain nameless. While good and within my price range, it was in Renton and I live on Capitol Hill in Seattle, so it was quite a trek. I started looking for places in Seattle-proper to go and most were extravagently expensive ($100+ for a fill!) or so cheap they don't care how your lashes look when they're done.

Then I found Shimmer Beauty Bar in Ballard. While the initial set cost is pretty much on par with other Seattle salons that provide this service, the lash fills are only $50! $50 once a month, saves me a trip to the 'burbs, and countless minutes every morning when I'm rushing to get ready? Yes, please, and thank you!

Shimmer just had their official launch at the beginning of December (they are an extension of Duque Spa and Salon just around the corner) and they're located in a oft-turned-over little sliver a retail space right in the middle of that whole Old Ballard shopping street (what IS the name of that street anyways?).

The decor is cute and girly (pink and curlicue details in their decorations) and I think the beauty bar concept is an ideal use of that funny shaped space (you know the one I'm talking about. It was a gallery, then it sold shoes, then bags, then bikinis). The intimate space keeps you from feeling like you're fighting for elbow room at a department store cosmetics counter but still large enough to carry a complete assortment make up colors and concoctions that you don't feel like you're missing out on the latest and greatest.

The waxing and lashes get done in the upstairs loft, which provides plenty of privacy from foot traffic perusing Shimmer's goods (they also sell jewelry and Hanky Pankys).

When I first discovered Shmmer, they were planning on offering bubbly and eventually fruit-infused vodka cocktails for their clients. I certainly hope that's still in the works. I'm sure it'll be helpful for anyone going in for a waxing.
