On a bustling strip of 2nd Ave. in Belltown, there exists an oasis from the alcohol-spurred mating calls of 35 year-old frat boys: Clever Bottle is a dimly lit wine bar/cocktail lounge serving up Washington pours, champagne sippers, and after dinner drinks. The short, well-chosen list of offerings is affordable—a number of them starting at $6—and the owner promises that small plates of snackables, like cheese and crackers, are coming soon. Perhaps the most intriguing cocktails at Clever Bottle are the ones made with beer—like the Blonde Remedy, accented with key lime and lemon, or the Pomegranate Rouge, made with pomegranate, orange, and sparkling wine. The atmosphere on any evening is intimate and conducive to soothing those first-date jitters. (A bonus: everyone looks even better swathed in Clever Bottle’s soft candle-lit haze.)
