Rogue chef Gabriel Claycamp’s butcher shop/deli in West Seattle has garnered a fervent following—after all, where else in town can you find an overstuffed, ultra-tasty, lamb meatball hero? The charmingly red-painted shop with the striped awning sells delicacies such as foie gras, bacon burgers, a whole roster of sausages, their house-made bacon and pastrami, various cuts of locally-sourced meat, and take-home dishes such as stuffed leg of lamb, potato gratin, and roast (and sometimes, smoked) chickens rubbed with their signature spices. (Recently, The Swinery has started selling local vegetables, making it the perfect after-work stop if you need to round out dinner with some greenery.) Daily special sandwiches—like the aforementioned lamb meatball hero, or BLTs made with Swinery bacon, arugula and sun-dried tomato aioli, are always a hit with the West Seattle denizens who are lucky enough to live within walking distance to this gem of a shop. Grab your sammie to go, or claim one of the stools at the counter.
