The cuisine of middle America is not known for being light and healthy, but rather than Seattle-izing Midwest fare with whole grains and lots of veggies, this West Seattle diner has embraced the full-fat versions of hearty fare like meatloaf sandwiches, mac and cheese, tuna casserole and chicken-fried steak. The décor—walls covered in almanac pages from the ‘40s and ‘50s, Mason jar light fixtures and tractor seats used as bar stools—adds to the theme. And while the majority of what’s offered can be found in home-style restaurants around the city, a few items (look for the Juicy Lucy, Wisconsin butter burger and tater tot casserole) are straight out of the Midwest. Bonus: the place doesn’t close until 3:30am on Fridays and Saturdays, making this the ideal spot to enjoy after hours (when your judgment is impaired enough that you don’t think about the calorie intake).
