Citysearch Editorial Review. Part of the Melrose Project, artisan cheese shop Calf and Kid is making headlines for being a tiny blip of a shop carrying an unparalleled selection of gourmet cheeses. Housed in a stripped-down space with brick walls, unfinished wood and bare concrete floors, the Calf and Kid certainly fits the uber-modern, Capitol Hill aesthetic. Patrons run the gamut from big-name chefs to amateur foodies in search for something unique to add to their cheese plates. (Don’t leave without checking out the modest but well-chosen selection of condiments on the shelf to the left of the store!) Selections rotate, but some favorites include a blue buffalo cheese, Gioia Burrata (coincidentally, the same burrata they use at Pizzeria Mozza in LA) and the Camembert-like Dinah cheese from Kurtwood Farms.
