Citysearch Editorial Review – One of less than a dozen Salvadoran restaurants in Seattle, this Capitol Hill eatery (a sister to the U-District original) is tucked inside a brick building called “The Alley,” sharing space with a kimchi bistro and a smoke shop. The clean, sparse atmosphere is lit up with festive yellow and orange walls covered with small painted earthenware artifacts and art. The service is quick, and the menu lends itself to mixing and matching to create a unique Salvadoran feast on the cheap. Try a pupusa, a traditional Salvadoran dish of handmade corn or rice flour tortillas filled with any combination of chicken, pork, cheese, refried beans, zucchini, spinach or jalapenos; they’re only $2.35 each, and filling enough to order alone, though you won’t want to. In a neighborhood more focused on pub grub and noodle shops, homemade refried beans and tortillas with an emphasis on traditional flavors set Guanaco’s apart.
