The masterminds behind this Ballard temple to authentic Italian gelato made a smart choice of location—D’Ambrosio is on the strip of Ballard Avenue used for the Sunday farmers' market, and the Seattle ‘hood is one of the few remaining that wasn’t already claimed by Molly Moon’s, Full Tilt or any other local purveyor of frozen desserts. Yet this monopoly on the sweet-toothed market hasn’t caused this gelateria to slack—regularly changing flavors ranging from pistachio to panna cotta to saffron are bright and delicately sweet, the perfect essence of flavor in each blissful spoonful. Grab a small cup or cone and you still have the option for two flavors (recommended so you can more quickly work your way through the menu), but it’s fine to go bigger: a sign on the wall advertises gelato’s lower fat content than common ice cream, meaning you can have your dessert with a little less guilt.
