Great neighborhood Pizzeria.
This place really had to prove itself and it was replacing a fabulous wine bar and restuarant -Impromptu - that I visited often and where "everybody knew my name". However, once I adjusted to the change in style and tone - this is a laid back, homey, casual spot - I came to love the Independent for it's own vibe and it's excellent pizza. I like their crust better than Delancy's! The service is good, not perfect, but friendly and hamish.
I have NEVER had any problem with beng overcharged. The prices seem reasonable and it's a very welcoming place. they have a small but excellent list of wines - Madison Cellars is just downstairs. In fact the whole menu is small but well chosen and well executed. It's a really small place and they have been known to run out of pizza dough especially at high traffic times. Give it a try!
apology to KittyKat1924. As the owner/pizza slinger of The Independent Pizzeria, I would like to make a public apology regarding the issue with your credit card. I completely understand your disappointment and I'm sorry for creating a stressful situation for you. We did not receive the message until well past the incident. As soon as I had discovered the mistake I started the process of refunding your credit card through my merchant services. Your card has been refunded for the full amount. This was an isolated incident and while I am at fault it was completely unintentional. Understandably I have lost your trust and patronage, which on its own is unfortunate. Being a new, small business owner, this is the first time I have dealt with something like this. While I feel you are completely valid with your frustration during this process, I disagree with your claim that we are a business that has taken on a practice of fraudulent charges and then warning the community to "beware". I run an honest business and I am dedicated to my values. I would never want anyone to feel that they had been taken advantage of and I am so sorry you felt that this was your experience.
Beware Fraudulent Charges when paying with Credit or Debit. 2 friends and I visited the restaurant a week or so after opening in May, 2010. The pizza was fair, service was a bit lacking as the waitstaff wasn't very well versed on the few wine options offered. Worst part was after splitting the bill 2/3 for the friends I was with and 1/3 for my portion, I learned upon receiving my credit card statement that the restaurant charged me for both my portion and theirs. They were ALSO charged for their portion. After leaving 2 messages with the restaurant within a week or so of the visit about the charges, I never received a response. It speaks volumes to me about the credibility of this new establishment that they wouldn't follow-up to resolve this. After much red tape, my credit card co. credited me for the charge but not without having to re-issue my credit card (standard procedure when fraud is involved). I didn't appreciate the hoops I had to jump through to resolve this mess. I won't be frequenting this restaurant again. Beware!
Citysearch Editorial Review. Stationed on the banks of Lake Washington in upscale Madison Park, this pizzeria eschews gourmet embellishment in favor of quality, simplicity and recession-proof pricing. Inside the tiny space, budget-savvy foodies and families quickly populate a handful of tables and bar stools. With just seven pizzas, two antipasti and one salad, the sparse menu delivers only the Sicilian essentials. Razor-thin pies are brick oven-blistered and toothsome, painted with bright Italian red sauce. Simple, market-fresh topping combos include classic, milky mozzarella with basil or earthy crimini mushrooms with fontina and sage.
