What Our Expert Scouts Say

Bar Ferdinand
February 09, 2013

Housed in the lovely Melrose Market, Bar Ferdinand is a fine place to taste or buy wine and the perfect spot to grab a glass of wine and a light nosh while waiting for a table at Sitka & Spruce.

Eclectic wines by the glass in the impressive, lovely Melrose Market. Being a book or soak in the atmosphere. Wile away the afternoon here.

Tips for Bar Ferdinand

August 30, 2010

Citysearch Editorial Review. Sister project to Sitka and Spruce, Bar Ferd’nand is chef Matt Dillon’s wine/beer/spirits bar. Perfect for handling the inevitable overflow from Sitka and Spruce on any given night, or as a solo after-work destination, Bar Ferd’nand is a low-key experience that still feels like a night out. The space—furnished with white back-splash, oak barrels, butcher block counter seating, and fashionable Capitol Hill residents sporting airy vintage dresses and artfully mussed ‘dos—feels hip and urban. Wines are available for retail sale, and can also be popped open and enjoyed for a small corkage fee. (An extensive by-the-glass wine list is also available, as are simple cocktails like sweet vermouth on the rocks.) Come evening, Bar Ferd’nand offers light fare from Sitka’s kitchen: fresh-shucked oysters, oil-cured tuna with six-minute egg, salt cod with peppers, and prawns with aioli are a few offerings that surfaced during their opening months, though menu items vary with the season.
