Located in a forgotten strip mall in a funky corner between MLK and Rainier, even some people who live near by have missed this garishly decorated gem of a restaurant. With ample parking in front, access here is easy once you’ve located it. The strangely floral smell that greets you upon entry is actually coming from the smiling, steam-emitting cat that sits on the bar at the front of the room. And if you are lucky, that music is coming from the enormous piano located in the back of the room. Settle into one of the aqua-colored chairs straight out of a ‘50s’ lounge and order up from the menu, which is straight out of Vietnam. Offbeat delicacies like the Baby Clam Rice Crackers are surprisingly appealing, while classics like papaya salad are well executed. Cheaper than its cohorts in the International District and more loudly decorated than anywhere nearby, Jasmine distinguishes itself from its competitors by adding a festive atmosphere—though the food is still solid.
