Tips for Starbucks

July 30, 2008

Seattle-based coffee chain lures caffeine addicts with upscale roasts, caramel frappuccinos, shaken iced teas and an extra shot of trendiness.. In Short
For many, getting their daily jolt of java has become a daily morning ritual, and the cardboard cup with its infamous green label is the close companion of every coffee aficionado. Busy baristas work seamlessly behind the bar, juggling orders for their strongly-brewed drips and signature hot and cool beverages. While providing a wide selection of coffee specialties, pastries and various coffee related goods, patrons are invited to settle down in comfy armchairs and enjoy their favorite brews amid the chatter of the laidback yet caffeinated crowd.

Fast, Friendly Service. While coffee shops are a dime a dozen in downtown Seattle these days, this corner shop is a jewel in the Pioneer Square area. Boasting a strong regular (and recognized) customer base, quick and friendly baristas, and an engaging and competent manager, it has quickly become one of my favorite places to stop and take a break from the bustle of the work day.

Walk up to the Starbucks on 2nd and Yesler. This is consistantly the worst Starbucks I've been too. The usual cashier is overly aggresive in trying to upsell you. The baristas are hit and miss in getting the order right. The manager is generally unkept. The store is understaffed and has had broken equipment a number of times in the last 4 months since I've been in the neighborhood. If it's slow when you come in, you get the feeling that you're intruding on the staff as they hang out in their living room. An overall unwelcome experience. Walk up to the one on 2nd (maybe it's 3rd) and Yesler, much better entirely.
