Becco

Authentic Italian-American fare in the heart of the Theater District

  • Unlimited Pasta Prix-Fixe
  • Private Party Rooms
  • Lidia Bastianich(co-owner)

The name Becco is derived from the Italian verb, beccare, which means to peck, nibble or savor something in a discriminating way. Lidia Bastianich and her son, Joseph, opened Becco in the theater district in 1993. Known for its acclamined $16.95 pre fix lunch menu and $21.95 pre fix dinner menu that includes a large assortment of Italian antpasti or a Caesar salad together with unlimited servings of tableside pasta, prepared fresh daily. Hearty main courses include the porcini rubbed ribeye steak, "Joe's grilled veal chop" and a wide selection of Italian wines, all priced at $25.00 per bottle.

Editorial Review for Becco – by Mitchell Davis

The Scene
Abbondanza is the name of the game here, where a one-price-buys-it-all menu gets you in and out quickly, inexpensively and wishing you hadn't had that second bite of dessert. Almost before you take your seat, you're besieged by an assortment of antipasti that changes according to the season and the whim of the chef.

The Food
Every dinner includes the all-you-can-eat antipasto and a pasta selection that whizzes around the dining room in well-worn saute pans. Servers pile your plate with papardelle in veal ragu, linguine with black olive paste, penne, rigatoni, gnocchi, ravioli--every night the choice is different. The timid stop there, but if you're still hungry, a small supplemental charge earns you a generous entree.

Incredible!!! Back for the 3rd time in 2 years. Brought a couple of friends from the UK and my wife. We had a vegan, a meat eater, a fish eater, and pork eater. All were in heaven. The staff were extremely attentive and especially to the vegan orders. The sparkling rose wine was the cap to one of the best meals we've have ever had. Plan on returning again and again.

Pros: Every morsel of food

Cons: A touch "lively" loud but bearable

My best friend and I had dinner at Becco on a busy Saturday night. Our server asked if we were going to a show and made sure our food came out quickly and brought the bill with dessert. The atmosphere was very nice, the cocktails were good, the service was prompt and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the pasta special dinner since we were having a hard time deciding. The antipasto was extremely fresh and the pasta was so good we didn't want to stop eating. If we hadn't been going to a show we would have lingered for more cocktails. I would highly recommend Becco to anyone.

Pros: Excellent service, great food

Cons: waiting area a little cramped

Editor's Review

The name's Italian for "little beak," but don't come to this Theater District hot spot to eat like a bird.  See the full editorial review.
