The Setting
Wildwood State Park comprises 600 acres of undeveloped hardwood forest terminating on the high bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. The park is located along Long Island's less developed outer North Shore, so crowds are fewer and quiet is easier to come by. Instead of ocean surf, the quiet lapping of the sound's gentle waves provide the rhythm here.
The Facility
Some campsite areas are reserved for trailers and RVs--there are no hook-ups, but there is a dump station. Swimmers can take advantage of the placid sound waters, and picnickers can relax at shaded picnic tables as their children enjoy the nearby playground. Visitors can fish and use the hiking and cross-country ski trails.
