Editorial Review for Gate of India – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
This restaurant hideaway is warmly lit and decorated with intricate brocaded tapestries. The menu features Indian fare such as chicken tandoori, naan loaded with toasted garlic bits, and mango chutney. But a hip, international clientele comes for the house specialties, like ginger chicken swathed in a spicy-sweet paste, and coconut curry with vegetables in a thick sauce.

I used to live in Hollywood and would frequent the restaurant on a weekly basis. Once I moved away, I missed them terribly. One day, I decided to order from Gate of India for our company luncheon in Downtown. Robin helped me with my order and it was so much high end food for 12 people at an unbelievable price. My boss was impressed and I scored major brownie points. Thanks Robin! :-) My favorites are the Tikka Masala, Aloo Matar, Vegetable Biryani, and the Peshwari Naan which is bread stuffed with a blend of coconut, raisins, almonds and cashews.
Pros: Tasty Food. Quality in Quantity.
Cons: Parking is tricky.

I'm really into Indian food and curries and this place has simply average curries in my taste. The curries were pretty standard, the flavor wasn't spectacular but its not the worst I've had. However, there was one curry that we ordered (Forgot the name) but it tasted like a combination of alfredo sauce and tomatoes. The decor was also quite standard for an Indian restaurant, they could probably do a little more than what is there. The Christmas lights that were up and turned on looked pretty out of place considering the feel of the restaurant. Our waiter was pretty nice, and answered all our questions about the food. We went on a Thursday night around 7-8ish and it was pretty empty, parking was pretty easy to find.
Pros: Service and parking was excellent
Cons: Food is only about average, but I'm pretty picky.
