Editorial Review for Ohio Theatre and Ticketmaster Outlet – by Bob Fitrakis

History
Two years after noted Scottish architect Thomas W. Lamb built the grand Palace Theatre in Columbus, he topped himself with the 2,779-seat Spanish/Baroque Ohio Theatre in 1928.

Attention to Detail
The obsessively ornate theater came complete with its own orchestra and a theater organ that rises up from beneath the floor. Like many 1920 theater palaces, seating is multi-tiered at an extremely steep angle.

Across From the Statehouse
In the old days politicians could walk across the street to catch movies, plays and vaudeville antics--just like in the legislature.

Dodging Demolition
By 1969, urban decay left the majestic theater facing a date with the wrecking ball. Before it could be torn down, Columbus citizens mounted a memorable "Save the Ohio" campaign.

Today
The Ohio is the home of the Columbus Symphony and regularly features BalletMet, concerts and a popular summer movie series.

One of Columbus' Best

Nominated for best place to see live music for its gorgeous acoustics and an interior as impressive as most of the events it hosts.

Parking

The parking lot under the Statehouse is the best place to park. Use the 3rd Street entrance.

Binoculars

BYOB or rent them for $8, 'cuz if you're sitting in the cheap seats, squinting isn't enough.

Excellent acoustics and a historic downtown location are two reasons that this is the busiest theater in the state.  See the full editorial review.
