Editorial Review for Reading Terminal Market – by Jason Clampet

In Short
Amish vendors take orders on cordless phones just across the way from a kebab seller; there's vegetarian takeout steps away from the butcher, all contained in a restored structure that once accommodated commuters arriving in trains, but now catering largely to suburban visitors. The eateries, bakeries, markets and diners offer plenty of choices for groups in the city for a few days, whether they're sightseeing or attending the sci-fi comic-con in the adjoining Convention Center.

Fresh food needs a fresh floral counterpart. The Market has three locations for fresh-cut flowers: Market Blooms, Young Botanicals and Flower Basket.

I was in town for a week last year ( as a guest of someone attending a conference) and I ate there almost every day. There was plenty to choose from and it helped that it was right across the street from the convention center. I (being from the west coast) was introduced to cheese steaks, which were great. It was crowded, especially during lunch but I didn't think it was too expensive. I also loved all the little gifts that I was able to find for friends and family.

Pros: selection of food, gifts

Cons: crowded

Awesome experience, I could have spent the whole day there. It's huge in there! We ate at the Amish diner. The food was fantastic, plentiful, reasonable...what more could you ask for...as for service....very good.

Pros: Many ethnic foods as well as good American fare--so lots of choice

Cons: Some places only take cash, very crowded at times
