Very good food, inconsistent service

by Earthy08

I've eaten here three times, and each time the food was wonderful. The servings were about right and left us with enough room to share a dessert. I loved both the lemon dessert and the pecan brownie with ice cream. The first two times, the service was good, but this last visit was disappointing. The server seemed to be in a hurry to leave our table each time she talked with us and asked us the perfunctory "how is everything?" question without much thought or interest. She failed to fill our water glasses until we had paid the check, and she placed the check on our table before we even finished dessert.

Food is bland & expensive, go just for drinks and view.

by georgia_lee_w

I tried to like this place- it has all the awards and what not. But I am always let down. The fish seems to be served in way too much butter/sauce and the sides/salads are just bland. The prices are high and leave you wishing you would have just gone to Anthony's instead. Even the dessert menu is lacking. Go for the fabulous views and cocktail or wine. But that is it.

  • Cons: price, menu

Fantastic Surprise!

by rmski2

I would like to think my family knows good food, we've been to several of the best (consensus) restaurants in the country i.e. Babbo, 21 Club, Gramercy Tavern in NYC. Having said this, one night this past summer my mom was out of town and naturally my dad and I went down to the waterfront for dinner. My dad had heard of the Fish Cafe so we decided to give it a try. We were VERY pleasantly surprised. The apple, bacon heart of romaine was simple yet delightful. Granted it is predominantly a seafood restaurant, I never refuse a rack-of-lamb when it sounds good and ordered it here. It was easily up there with the best baby racks-of-lamb I've had. However, the exclamation point was dessert. Upon seeing the rice pudding with coconut, mango, and passion fruit, I had no reason to keep reading... quite possibly one of the best desserts I've had, ever. Service was accomadating and friendly, not too engaging but at the same time always polite and helpful. I wholeheartedly reccomend the food at the Fish Cafe.

Great seafood, fantastic view, if you're not on a budget

by zot79

We recently took an out-of-town friend here for the Northwest seafood experience and had a wonderful meal. The prices are spendy, but not outrageous, and the food and ambiance combination are worth every penny. The menu seems highly variable, so choices will be different. My swordfish over ginger noodles was one of the the best pieces of fish I've ever had. The other entrees were apparently just as delicious. Kudos also to the attentive, but not pushy, waitress.

Stunning Lake Washington views and an exceptionally exquisite seafood menu set this Eastside cafe apart.

by Contributor

In Short
Named for its elevated location on the third floor of an office building, this classy spot is a must-try on the Eastside dining scene because of its expansive view of Seattle. The dining room is multi-level, giving each table an eyeful. Low lighting and jazz in the background sets a sexy, romantic mood. The menu is almost exclusively devoted to simply-prepared fish, like halibut with white corn risotto or scallops with vegetable ragout.

Great food, view, service - not cheap

by pbernard9

I have been there twice so far - once for a business dinner and once with a friend for drinks.

The dinner was superb - orginal, fresh and well prepared. The waiter was a real professional and attentive. They also have an extensive wine list.

The view is great over Lake Washington and the place was immaculate and well-appointed. Top shelf (including the price).

  • Pros: Top shelf food, service and ambience
  • Cons: Top shelf price

Great for special occasions

by gbugher

Living on the Eastside, the Third Floor Fish Cafe has become my favorite place to go for special occasions and dates. The view is beautiful, and the food is consistently excellent. The prices are appropriate (around $50 per person once drinks, tip, etc. are included) -- high but not exorbitant.

The menu is relatively limited, but every item I've had on it has been fantastic. Portion sizes are not large, but they're sufficient -- some people seem to think they're small for the price (particularly the appetizers), but I've certainly never left hungry (and having room for dessert isn't a bad thing.)

Overall, I highly recommend it; I can't think of a better place for a nice night out with good food and good atmosphere without spending $250 on dinner.

  • Pros: Food is fantastic, good views
  • Cons: Limited menu choices may deter eating there frequently

Went there on Saturday night, it wasn't overcrowded. Live piano music, nice ambiance, stiff martinies. Appetizers were tasty.

A bit disappointed...

by spunckie

I decided to try Fish Cafe after recommended by a friend and reading good reviews here. My experience wasn't bad but not as good as I though. Appitzer (Grilled Prawns) was very tasty, but at $13 a plate for only 3 prawns it's way overpriced. I had a Seared Alaskan Scallops and the scallops were tasteless, the rest of the stuff on the plate was okay; the King Salmon my date had was pretty good. Lemon Souffle and Cream Brulee were good too. Our waitress was very attentive. It was a Wednesday night but it was pretty crowded and noisy, I wouldn't say it's exactly a romantic spot. Fish Cafe didn't strike me as the best, and at $$$, I'm not sure if I'd go back.

  • Pros: Attentive staff
  • Cons: Overpriced

Very good, but not stellar

by jazzynoir

Had dinner at the Third Floor Fish Cafe last night after a several month hiatus from the place. I was craving fish and ordered the roasted salmon. Terrific! My date had a steak which he said was among the best he'd had in the last couple of years. My problem was with the lackluster service. Perhaps it was because it was a Tuesday night, but frankly we didn't notice a "Tuesday night discount" on our bill, so we expected good service. The bar was pretty busy when we went in for a nightcap and service there was much better than the dining room. Another hiatus may be the answer here.

  • Pros: Food, View, Free Parking
