Capitalizing on Twin Peaks Fame

Service was ok, environment close to outlet mall, food was low-middle but WAY too much.

Wouldn't return.

endless home cut fries, huge portions, friendly staff and darn fine pie and coffee.

A great place to meet with friends, pie and coffee or super sized omettes, hang out on Tuesday night jam sessions. Often a very busy place (the first sign of good food, friendly service, generous portions) Right on the corner, it is filled with Twin Peaks memorabilia, and tweety birds everywhere. Great family atmosphere. If you have to wait a second or two for your food, they provide interesting and humorous literature at every booth for your amusement. even an old-time pac man and pinball machine!

Twede's cafe is a great small town gem, not stuffy or snooty, it's down home and comfy.

• Cons: quite often filled with travelers, sometimes have to wait

best hashbrowns, great waitress and fast service

My husband and I ate at Twede's Restaurant yesterday, June 24, 2008. We were looking for a down home place to eat after visiting family in Seattle and Twede's in North Bend, Washington was a good choice. The waitress was friendly and food was excellent. The hashbrown potatoes were crispy and tasty and the biscuit was huge. The atmosphere was pleasant. We visited Twin Falls trail in the nearby forest afterwards...our memories of the area was a great stop off I-90.

Don't stop here

Ugh. Won't be going to this place again. Took my kids there this morning for Saturday breakfast and was very disappointed. We live in a nearby town and from the outside it looked like a good old fashioned diner. We love roadside diners and find some little dives like this are real gems. Not this place though. The cafe is cute and rather kitchy and attractive for kids but the floor was absolutely filthy -- which made me wonder about the kitchen. Not daily dirt and mud that we all track in. This was true grime in need of several buckets of Pine Sol.

The service was okay. Polite waitress (we tipped her accordingly). Fairly speedy considering the place was somewhat busy. They all seemed like friendly enough folks. Just don't eat anything.

We ordered a cinammon roll to share and all agreed it was the worst we'd ever had. I'm not sure what the dough was, but it wasn't anything I recognized. The plain waffle (vs the strawberry) was indeed absolutely plain. A 6"'ish waffle hucked on a plate for $6. Eggs, bacon etc are ordered separately. The waffle was bland and cardboard-like. Kids said the same thing about their pancakes and ate only a small part of them. It's as though someone had added Crisco or something into the batter. All in all we left a bit grossed-out by our breakfast.

I'd actually give them a star and a half because the waitress was fast and they did do a cute job with the presentation of the kids food. Milk and hot cocoa (which was good) arrived in plastic-lidded cups with a cute dab of whipped cream and sprinkles on TOP of the cup. And the pancakes arrived with a little circle of chocolate chips on them. Very cute. But the food itself was bad. Perhaps the egg dishes that were on other tables were better but even the kids agreed we shouldn't go back to find out.

The Home of Poor Service and Bad Breakfast

My husband and I wanted a good country breakfast with generous servings and a home-made taste. We certainly didn't find it at Twede's. The establishment is dirty, all of the surfaces have a tacky feel to them. The service was poor, we waited, and waited, for our food to come, and we didn't get what we ordered when it did come. The food was bad. I have never had a worse "biscuit" in my life. I was given a square shaped cut out of something between a stale scone and wonder bread with absolutely no flakey buttery anything. The prices were exceptionally high for what we received. Our conclusion, they're living off of the tourist appeal from Twin Peaks fans who want some Cherry Pie.

Stay away!

This was a very disappointing experience. My friends and I were hungry after cross-country skiing and hoped for a friendly and tasty local cafe. We found poor to no service, bad food and unwarranted prices like $7 onion rings. The coconut cream pie seemed to be made of a combination of crisco and wax and was unedible. I wasn't looking for anything fancy and I have problem with greasy food, but I believe coffee and water should be refilled and greasy food should taste good. The worst part was the prices, I pay only a little more in Seattle for much better quality. I recommend avoiding this place.

Twin Peaks' ties and excellent diner food keep Twede's bustling

The Scene
Twede's has staked its claim to fame on David Lynch's television show Twin Peaks, which used the location as a backdrop for its Twin Peaks Cafe. Tourists soak up the quirky, diner atmosphere, complete with blue vinyl booths, linoleum floors, neon signs and Tweety Bird figures, but the local crowd, dressed in jeans and flannel shirts, make an appearance as well. Servers, coffee pot in hand, aren't above calling customers "hon" or "sweetie," as they push the cafe's cherry pie.

The Food
The food is good and the servings are huge. Most breakfasts, including omelets and bacon and eggs, are served with gut-busting servings of crisp hash browns. The Denver mix, buttery cubed potatoes, diced ham, onions, green pepper, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, is a gooey, wonderful mess of food that could easily feed four. The cherry pie, with flaky, homemade crust, is decent, but not outstanding.

Twede's is a wonderful, mellow place. And hey rube, if you're in a hurry drive to Bellevue...

This is an awesome cafe with genuine soul, good food, french fries made from actual potatoes, way great malts and reasonable prices. No, the wait staff aren't going to break an ankle or slip a disk to take your order -- that's why there are all those cool books at every table. Kick back, relax and you'll get better service. Act like some spoiled Californian and/or an overprivileged Microsoftie and you're likely to be perceived as an evil alien...and rightly so. If you're looking for mediocre, overpriced food, canned ambiance and brisk service, wait in line at any Chili's or Olive Garden. It was a free country last time I checked. You want cookie-cutter service? Go elsewhere. Twede's is the yardstick against which all of restaurant reality is measured.

• Cons: Might attract people who are better off in Bellevue
