Visual flair and fusion fare distinguish this upscale beer hall from smaller microbreweries.

by Contributor

In Short
Airy, industrial decor lends a lighter, more urban feel to Gordon Biersch than most beer halls. The bar may get crowded after 5pm, when a happy-hour crowd hoists a few pints of seasonal Bavarian-influenced beers. A menu of fusion and New American dishes include beer-friendly offerings like shrimp and chicken pot stickers, Moroccan-spiced lamb chops and the signature garlic french fries.

Bad service, rude waitstaff, average food

by rookie_food_critic

We went to Gordon Biersch after we saw the restaurant was full every time we passed by it. First of all, after sitting down,we had to wait 10-15 minutes for anyone to notice us. It took them another 15 minutes to bring our drinks.. Sadly, the beer was hardly worth the wait, it was really watered down and so were their cocktails (cosmopoliton). To their credit, they brought the appetizer (southwestern egg rolls) quick and it was actually good. Encouraged by that, we were eagerly waiting for dinner, which of course was a disappointment. We ordered a pasta and a veggie pizza, both lacked any kind of flavor. And finally, when we were getting out, one of the waitress blocked my path, did not move for 2-3 minutes or apologize. Needless to say, I am not going back there again.

Why eat Farm Raised Salmon in the Northwest?

by pilleated

This restaurant is serving farm raised salmon instead of wild salmon. Farm raised salmon has been shown to contain high levels of toxins like PCB. The salmon are fed 'salmon chow' that, among other things (which are a guarded secret), contains a coloring agent to make the salmon pink. Above all, salmon farming hurts the environment and is a serious threat to the wild salmon of the pacific northwest. It's not like wild salmon isn't available, especially here in the northwest. The only reasons a restaurant would serve farm raised salmon is because they are ignorant of the facts about the food choices they are making, they have no regard for the environment or your health, or they are greedy (it's a lot cheaper) at your expense.

Great for sharing

by jvuylsteke

I?ve had a great experience every time I?ve gone to Gordon Biersch. The food was fabulousand entrees were big enough that we all had a little bit of each others. The beer selection was amazing too. You could even order a pitcher-sized mug all to yourself!

  • Cons: As always with downtown restaurants you have to pay for parking

Bad Service

by prin05

Our experience here tonight was horrible. The service was terrible as well as the dish we ordered. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks came to us but we waited a half hour for our appetizers all the while watching everyone else around us (who came in after we did) get their main course. We were never offered water, bread was brought to us late, we were never offered another drink after we had finished our first, never offered condiments, never offered dessert (which we wanted) and on top of that it took a very long time to get our main dish. People who came in after us ate and left before we got our food. Once the food arrived, it was cold and extremely dry. Blech.

  • Pros: Garlic fries, Location

Typical Chain

by ryynoo

Everything here is average. Just like most chains. Never bad, never great. Just plain boring. The beer however is pretty good. Particlularly the Marzen.

What happened?

by ctac

Loved this place when it opened, used to go there every other week. It was going on for about 2-3 years then for about a year I did not go there. Recently went there with my friends and got a little upset. There are too many people, place now looks "used", because they serve so many people quality of service went down too. They forgot to wipe the seats and one of my friends almost sat down on beer spill. Plus their many have changed too and some of the great Creole items vanished...

Obviously Can't Hang Under Pressure

by katiak9

YUCK - what a terriable experience! Went here the day after thanksgiving. the worst service I've ever had. Been in this business for years - not only did our server take our order and not come back for over 50 minutes, but we watched her deliever food to five other tables that came in after us (there were only two at our table). Once we got our appetizer she offered us bread (which she never brought) - never refilled beverages, never asked us how the food was - our meal took 1 1/2 hour to come out and it was COLD and DISGUSTING. The server had obviously forgotten to put our order in and hid from us. Never offered dessert or coffee - simply dropped off the check and ran. If you can't hang, get out of the kitchen sister. PERIOD. (the hostess was very rude as well!)

  • Cons: Bad Service, Understaffed, Cold Food
