Why shop anywhere else? And I have.

by Honu

This place has extremely friendly and knowledgeable sales staff and a great customer service staffer attendant at the front of the store to point you in the right direction. Their annual sales on cookware, cutlery, etc. are phenomenal and their unique and rotating selection of finely crafted ceramic ware is not to be overlooked. If you're into getting great value for your money on high end kitchen ware, City Kitchens is worth visiting at least monthly. I never leave empty handed. Today I was there looking at magnetic knife racks and was amazed by the selection of brands, sizes, and styles. I wasn't sure of the size I needed so on my way back to the office stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond to compare selection and price. Bed Bath and Beyond had two to choose from and were more expensive than CK. I'm going back to City Kitchens tomorrow to make my purchase. Do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't be sorry.

  • Pros: Excellent selection and prices
  • Cons: None

Fantastic Selection, Knowledgeable Staff, Great Prices

by julibeans

This is by far my favorite kitchen store. I'm a pretty serious home cook and I normally have gone to Sur La Table for most specialty items - they are less overpriced than Williams Sonoma. But City Kitchens has knocked them down a spot on the list! I first went to the store during a search for a football-shaped cookie cutter two days before the Super Bowl. Sur La Table offered me a stadium-shaped Bundt pan, and Williams Sonoma sold one as part of a set of 8 sports-themed cookie cutters for $32, while City Kitchens had just the football (all I needed) for $2.50. They set the last one in the store aside for me after I called - that was the beginning of my love for the store, and a good (if silly) indicator of the kind of store this is - they have exactly what you need, no more and no less, they sell it for a reasonable price, they know exactly where to find what you need, and will provide good customer service, too!

The selection of supplies at City Kitchens is really exceptional - surprising variety for the size of the store, a big range of prices on a lot of categories, top well-known brands as well as great little-known ones, a tool for every task as well as a great selection of basics, and a small but unique collection of tabletop and entertaining items. They are much more focused on quality products than on carrying the 'in' items of the year, and I think that really shows in their staff's knowledge of the products they carry. It is not a 'home' store or a book store - they carry few cookbooks and few items that are not kitchen-focused aside from some serving and cocktail pieces. But for the serious or aspiring home cook, it is a must-visit location. They have fantastic sale prices - my husband bought a chef's knife that normally retails for around $150 for $80, and I got a $110 LeCrueset grill pan for $50.

  • Pros: knowledgeable staff, great selection, great sale prices
  • Cons: parking, not many cookbooks

Professional, Knowledgeable, Friendly!

by tobylou

What more do you need? This is the place to go because they know of what they speak. If they don't know (which would be hard to believe) they find out for you. The selection is amazing for a regular size store front. When they have a sale it is not pretend. It is a SALE! No special purchases, loss leaders, or come ons! REAL VALUE but no big sale...? Who cares... buy from professionals!

  • Pros: Professional, Knowledgeable, Friendly!
  • Cons: It is downtown parking not so good but worth the walk

In this downtown shop the culinarily curious will find countless kitchen gadgets, hand-thrown imported pottery and a knowledgeable staff.

In Short
This bright space is filled from the floor (with "Puddy Tat" cat food bowls) to the ceiling (baskets and serving trays hang from the tiles). The friendly staff are kitchen wizards; there's even a cutlery specialist who mans the extensive display of knives. But the prices are probably what keeps those in-the-know coming back: There's a sale item on every shelf.

Want a REAL kitchen store?

by huruta

This place is fantastic. The selection, quality of products stocked and knowledgable staff along with competitive prices (especially during their annual sale in September) beats any other kitchen store I've been to in Seattle, including Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table (though Sur La Table is a close runner-up).

If you really love to cook and are tired of being spoon-fed overpriced one selection items at Williams Sonoma, this is the place to go!

  • Pros: selection, staff knowledge
  • Cons: parking
