One of the best lounges in Seattle

by kirillgil007

Lounge - nice, quite and has a fireplace to sit in front of wile sipping a drink ? which is really a sell point for me? I have never stayed in the hotel itself but judging from the lobby and the lounge which I frequently visit it must be grand.

  • Pros: Quite music, good drinks, no one bothers you
  • Cons: Not too many people fit there - if you come on Friday, Saturday night most likely you will not find a spot

There are better places to stay for your money

by CaspanRye

I'm a frequent visitor to Seattle and have stayed at the W numerous times. The last few visits have been so terrible I stay anywhere else, even though I'm a member of their points program.

First off, the hotel is in dire need of updating. It's only fashionable and chic if you're living in 1995. The hotel really shouldn't advertise itself as being boutique or cutting edge - it's really just a place for people to party and trash the place. On a recent visit we had to call security because rooms on both sides of me had parties going on at 3am. Security gave them numerous warnings, but did nothing because they had rented a conference room all week. Really?

When I tried to get some recommendations for dinner, the snooty concierge with the tight pants told me everything was booked and it would be nearly impossible to get a reservation downtown. I suppose browsing ebay is more important than making a few quick phone calls for a guest.

If you're looking for a real hotel that cares about guest experience, try any of these: Hotel Max, Hotel Andra, Hotel 1000, the Fairmont Olympic or the Arctic Club. Just avoid the W in Seattle at all costs.

  • Pros: Cheap rates through expedia, good music in the lounge
  • Cons: Nickel & dimed on everything, poor customer service, party central

For more than 60 years, this all-American institution has been serving its signature chicken and home-style sides.

by Contributor

In Short
Established in 1939, this fast-food restaurant still makes its legendary fried chicken with the closely guarded blend of 11 herbs and spices originally created by founder Colonel Sanders. Modern additions to the menu include oven-roasted renditions of its chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken, potato wedges and wraps. Classic sides include flaky, oversized biscuits, steaming-hot mashed potatoes and gravy, smoky-sweet baked beans and crisp, generously dressed coleslaw. Kids and adults love the "little bucket" parfaits of pudding desserts.

Great business hotel, fabulous bar, fantastic service

by janetstonge

I stayed at the W for a business convention (zzzzzzzzzz). From the minute our cab dropped us off, it was show time. The entire staff are well trained and in the business of catering to people. I know this because I DO customer service for a living. I had a suit tailored at Nordstrom while there, my personal shopper dropped it off and the CONCIERGE actually took it to my room, unwrapped it, and hung it in the closet. No one had to "look" for it when I asked. They all knew where it was. I'm salivating just thinking about that! The ambience is amazing, my room was amazing, LOVE BLISS LABS being from NYC. This place is dialed in. The bar hops every night. It's efficient yet fun for business. Met some girls from Portland escaping their doldrum lives who were having an awesome time. And if I actually had a man in my life, it would be a great place for romance.

Great Place for a Gen X,Y, or Z'er. Upscale, GREAT BAR, rooms chill with great vibe.

by abrightfutureawaits

Go to the W Hotel/Seattle for many reasons: Great Bar. Comfy rooms with million threadcount sheets (exageration), great pillows, excellent staff. Just feel comfortable here.

Probably the greatest thing about this place is their pet friendliness. They are cool about the pooch and that goes a long way with me.

Being cool about the pooch doesn't mean bring your lame dog here though. Don't ruin it for the rest of dog-loving America/Seattle.

Will definitely recommend this to friends, relatives, and countryman visiting Seattle.

  • Pros: Location, Bar/Lounge, Women/Men ratio, Room Comforts
  • Cons: A little pricey, but its the W right?

No In-room Coffee Maker? In SEATTLE??

by mybelle29

My husband surprised me Saturday night by booking a room at the W after our holiday party downtown. We checked in at 10pm, so our experience was mainly the room for our short stay. The bed was comfortable, with feather-top mattress and pillows and we enjoyed the flat screen tv. The products in the room were great (Bliss brand - and face wash for sensitive skin, which I appreciated having, as it was a surprise stay and I had to wash off make up.) Decore was nice and room was spacious. Be warned that you will hear sirens all night, based on location, though that may be typical of anywhere in the city. The deal killer for us was waking up and not being able to locate the coffee maker. NO COFFEE MAKER?? IN SEATTLE?? We had to order down...WAIT (this was my husband's beef) and then paid $12 + $2 gratuity for our small carafe of starbucks. Mind you, I was tortured by seeing the Starbucks sign across the street as I was waiting in my bathrobe for room service to arrive. It was enough to make us not want to return. The front desk guy said it's a W Worldwide standard - focusing on the Whatever/Whenever service in room. Just thought you all should know if it's important to you.

  • Pros: Style, location, hip bar downstairs
  • Cons: No coffee in room, noisy

Not for the tired or those on business

by brownsk

I am so over the W thing. I know - the dark lights, mode furniture and pounding music was the "thing" in the 1990's, but I'm done. After walking a city like Seattle, i don't want to open a lobby door with the thump, thump of extremely loud music - so loud that I cannot hear the staff without leaning over a counter. Are the lights for ambiance or is something not clean? I can't tell and I want to know my room is spotless. I also want that huge, big, soft bed with crisp white bedding and a good reading light. I want to be able to see to put on makeup in the bathroom. NOT in this hotel. In a city like Seattle that has rain 11 months out of the year shouldn't your hotel room be a little cheery?? The one strange thing is that in all this darkness, the room have blinds, no curtains. So as soon as you try to go to sleep, on comes the city lights! Many must complain because they offered to "install" curtains while I was out. I could have done much better w/ a sewing machine and a shower rod! There is a black rod crammed into the window with very thin black material safety pinned over it!! Classy. Room service extremely expensive. No coffee makers in the rooms (in Seattle??) no wifi in room and internet is $15 a day. Food so bad in the restaurant (Earth and Water) that I had to complain to manager. Wait staff told me the steak and fries are served cold and limp! So many other great places in Seattle - don't stay here!!!!!

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: dark, loud, expensive

Wonderful Wonderland

by tropicana2323

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and it was a wonderful stay! Definetly a cool modern place. We only planned to stay 2 nights then stay at a beach house after, but after hearing about how the resturaunt turns into a club on friday and saturday, we had to saty a night then too! Customer service was awsome, they were happy to schedule us massages at turtle bay resort for us. Its right on waikiki beach but not in the middle of it, its towards the park side so its quiet. Love W hotel. We will stay everytime we come to visit. The breakfast is awsome too! And dinner is great too! If you can't afford the stay, atleast go to the resturaunt and stay for the quick change to a club feel later.

Wedding night bliss

by jilliansims224

We stayed here on our wedding night this September and were really impressed. The hotel itself is beautiful and very elegant feeling. The staff was friendly and made a special effort to see that we were happy on our special night. We were a little shocked at the price but, the little extras and beautiful surroundings was worth that and more and I will look forward to many anniversary nights at this beatiful place!
