AHHHHH, What a Wonderful World..

by IndigoDiva9 at Citysearch

The smells, the services and the decor were so wonderful. I wish i could afford to go more often, as they are pricey. (But worth every cent.)

  • Pros: Best Spa in Washington!!!!
  • Cons: Parking is not easy

Looking for a relaxing spa experience? Go elsewhere!

by BNauman at Citysearch

Too bad there isn't a zero star rating.

I had a hectic week of meetings and based on the recommendation of a colleague was hoping for deep relaxation at Ummelina. Unfortunately the promise of the services as described on their website was never met. Instead throughout the entire Pacific Rim Journey they were either selling me on their products or trying to upsell me on services. I came to relax, I got a sales pitch at every turn while there, and I walked out $360 poorer and frustrated by the experience. I called and emailed to express my dissatisfaction and they essentially defended their practices, gave me an empty apology, and left it at that. I've been to a number of spas around the country, DO NOT waste your time or money on this place.

  • Pros: Website that lures you into thinking it'll be memorable
  • Cons: The service and the constant sales pitch for their products

Jaala is the best massage therapist!

by DJR7S at Citysearch

Jaala is an amazing massage therapist. We were on vacation from Chicago and needed some R&R. We scheduled a massage at Ummelina based upon a recommendation from a friend of ours that had visited Seattle about 8 months ago. All she could talk about was this spa experience. It really is that. They treat you well. JAALA is wonderful - she was my massage therapist. She listened to all my concerns and needs and was great. She has really strong technique, which I can appreciate being in the same industry and getting a massage/month, and utiliizes it well. I cannot say enough about Jaala - she is worth it. We each had a 90 min session and that would be my recommendation - it's worth it! Tell her Jason from Chicago sent you!

  • Pros: Jaala's hands, smile, and technical ability
  • Cons: traffic noise

Not a great spa experience

by cetha22 at Citysearch

I received a $250 gift certificate for Ummelina for Christmas two years ago and finally decided to go use it. Ummelina came highly recommended so I was pretty excited. I scheduled a 60 minute massage ($90) and a facial ($120) and thought I would have enough for tips (or I could save it again to use towards something else.

First of all, the massage was okay. It wasn't great and I have certainly had better for less. The girl was nice and friendly so otherwise I have no complaints.

Moving on to the facial...I would have to say this experience turned me off of facials going forward. The main reason why I even felt compelled to write a review is because today, 5 days later, I am (STILL) more broken out than I have been since I was in high school! I'm embarrassed to be at work and had to cancel lunch plans yesterday because it is so bad.

The final straw was when the girl at the front desk said I owe $250 for services (not including tip). She then broke it down so I could determine how much tip to pay each person and it was, sure enough, $90 for the massage and $120 for the facial. Hmmm...I can still only get to $210. I was irritated at that point and just wanted to leave.

Overpriced, bad experience.

  • Pros: Nice people
  • Cons: Overpriced, mediocre massage, facial made me breakout

best massage

by nolaspa at Citysearch

I love to visit all kinds of spa's and i am new to seattle so i went to Ummelina and it was great. I had a wonderful massage with Jen. She said she had been there a long time and i can see why they keep her around! :) it was a different spa than i am used to, hard to explain, more natural i guess? and it made my experience feel really authentic, not cold and sterile. i loved the massage and the atmosphere, i highly recommend ummelina!!!!

  • Pros: staff, atmoshpere, massage, skill level
  • Cons: none!

Awkward service, rude manager, sweet set up

by justaredh at Citysearch

I've been to about a dozen or so spas around the country. While vacationing in Seattle, my bf and I did one of the larger couples packages they offer and massages. First off, its completely true that Ummelina's does have a really nice set up. We were 15 minutes early for our treatment which, at most spas, is appreciated. The girl at the front desk rolled her eyes at us and informed us that we would have to wait. The Equator treatment was nice in theory but they only have one masseuse for two people! Which means that you spend half of the 2 hours doing nothing. I'm not sure how they can justify charging for two. Both of us thought that these were the worst two massages we've ever had at a spa.

Next is where the fun began. As we're leaving I hand the girl at the front desk my credit/debit card which she tries a few times without success and then calls the card company. They tell her that the card is now shut off. She hangs up the phone tells me that she refuses to even give me the card back because its not mine. I volunteer to literally dump out my wallet to prove that I am indeed the person whose name is on the card. She gets the manager who is also EXTREMELY rude. She makes a horde of comments implying that I am a criminal and poor, then calls building security and THE POLICE to the spa and tells them that I am trying to leave without paying and that I've stolen someone's wallet. I had to explain over and over again through my sobbing that I was on vacation and wasn't carrying hundred of dollars of cash on me and that I would be happy to give them ALL of my information and more. Even the police recognized right away that I wasn't a criminal. They completely ruined my spa day over a credit card company glitch that was solved by the next morning.

If you like snooty people, like spending a lot of money to have someone kinda rub you, and would like to know what it feels like to be a criminal, go to Ummelina's. Otherwise, go anywhere else.

incredible

by brianbrianbrian13 at Citysearch

I have been to both locations and it's insane! I regularly visit seattle, as that i live in c-town!, but went to the Yakima area for some wine. The spa is gorgeous! the therapists i had were amazing, i am assuming they are from seattle, but unsure as that they were so good. I have visited multiple spa's in c-town and nothing is like the yakima spa. the shower changes flow of water, there is a tub that is incredible. I was really surprised to find something like this in Yakima. It's right next to hotel, the Hilton, which next time i will stay there for convience! Super surprised about the experience. thank you Ummelina for classing up Yakima and now i can get wine and massage in the same place!!!! YEAH

  • Pros: 2 locations, skilled massage, great facials, ect
  • Cons: is there a con?

Great treatments, lacking in customer service

by CLMitchell at Citysearch

My friend and I visited the Yakima Spa where I had the full day spa package spending a little over $500. not including a very generous gratuity My friend had the fusion facial and bought products spending approximately $250. She was very pleased with her facial and I was very pleased with all my treatments. Melini and Ashley were great. However, we were disappointed with the so called "relaxation room" and dining area which are also work areas. It appears that they are trying to be "Zen like" but there is no water flowing in the areas except the faucets where attendants are filling vessels, etc. A microwave is running and when I was supposed to be relaxing after my facial, three people were receiving pedicures in this "relaxation room". The music in the treatment rooms was loud and not the soothing sounds I am accustomed to in other spas I frequent. At the end of my "spa day "I asked if someone would drive me back to my hotel a few blocks away since my friends had gone on to the wine country and would not be returning to Yakima until several hours later. The receptionist and manager seemed shocked and totally unprepared for this service request and the receptionist asked if I wanted the number of a taxi service. Anywhere else they would at the very least offer to call the number for you. Customer Service is one area where Yakima needs improvement. When I asked them to call for me, the manager went to the hotel next door and had them call the cab and she asked me to wait in the hotel lobby. Pros for the Yakima location are: treatments & treatment rooms are top notch, friendly attendants. Cons: Customer Service, relaxation room, dining & dressing areas, background music, lack of sophistication.
