Me and my mom went to this spa and it was phenomenal. When we first entered it smelled like heaven, it smelled like NATURAL herbs and essences instead of those migrane/nausea causing chemical parfumes. This spa is cleaner than clean, the only other con I can say is that as you enter you enter into the store and that puts a very very very small amount of pressure to buy stuff and may detract from some peoples relaxing experience. We were helped right away and were escorted to very nice very clean changing rooms. The only con is that they are co-ed but the doors close all the way so it tottaly doesnt matter. Also if you are uncomfertable undressing all the way they will let you keep your clothes on, the robes they give you are the best I've ever felt. Then we were escorted to a very very nice lounge were we were greeted with warm chairs and a blanket. We were given a neck wrap that was the perfect temperature and were given HOT tea! And then we got an amazing foot massage with essential oils, My feet are very ticklish and the woman who was massageing my feet adapted to feet my needs. Who could ask for more!? Also there were these really cool all natural air fresheners that smelled really nice they did everything for you, sprayed the air fresheners, put slippers on you, get honey for your tea even if the hunny is right next to you. We went to get our massages and it is the best massage I have ever gotten, top notch. There was soothing music, the sheets were so soft and the massuse was super polite and very helpful, the shower before was super helpful for relaxation, the other spas I have been to have never offered that or any of the luxuries I recieved. The staff was top notch and helpfull and not nosy at all, they were very efficient and they made my experience perfect. I would recomend this to anyone who wants to experience the true meaning of perfection and luxurie.
Pros: Everything! SUPER CLEAN!!!!
Cons: Pressure to buy products (although pressure was very small)

I was recently in Ummelina for a couple of services and it was more than i could have asked for! I had a pedicure with Marika and it was so relaxing and not what i was expecting! I was able to lie down on a table(maybe a massage table?) I have never almost fallen asleep during a pedicure. Then I had an Equator with Jen it was like nothing I had ever experienced! First i was in a shower that was described as a waterfall and it totally was! Then I had a salt scrub and then moved to a hot room where i was covered in mud! it was so cool! i would recommend this to everyone. Don't listen to the bad hype my experience was unbelievable.
Pros: ladies that work there, environment, services

This is one of the worst spas I've ever visited and I'm no stranger to spas. The changing rooms are co-ed with curtains that don't close all the way. The staff gave us no welcome and explanation because they were "handling" something at the front. While we waited for our services the microwave was in constant use and the tea was lukewarm. I asked that it be reheated TWICE before I got something about as hot as my tap. After our services we were taken to a shower where the water was warm, not hot, warm. Having it set on the highest setting gave me, essentially a warm tea bath. Ick. After that no one escorted us to the sitting room or offered us tea. For 20 minutes. That's right: our massage girl got called away and a message was apparently given to another staff person to take care of us but that person forgot. HOW DO YOU FORGET ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS??? After 20 minutes, I went to the front desk to ask if anyone knew we had been waiting and in fact, no one did. The person who has so graciously "forgotten" about us then brought us more warm tea. This is the opposite of a "relaxing spa experience". When I complained on the way out I was told by staff that they would talk to the manager and have her call me. She called TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER! Only to offer up one excuse after another about staffing issues, running a busy spa and opening another one somewhere else in eastern WA - however she did give me an apology and offered to send me a bottle of scented something. That was over a month ago and I have not received it, or a note of apology. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect my services to be comp'ed but COME ON! This is a dirty, dusty, warm watered "spa" where the staff are either over-worked or incompetent and everyone is afraid to do or say anything other than that they're sorry and they'll need to take it up with the manager or owner. This spa is a pathetic waste of money. Don't make the same mistake we did.
Pros: none

As a former employee of Ummelina Yakima Day Spa I want everyone to know what a wonderful experience I have had working for such a great Spa! I'm now 8 months pregnant and due to wanting to be a stay at home mom had to resign from working at Ummelina's. The staff and owners treated me like family and went above and beyond their duties to make me feel special. I have had many services at Ummelina as well as watched clients reactions to their experiences at Ummelina. I will continue to be a paying customer as well as recommend everyone to please try Ummelina..its a life changing experience. I now realize the importance of taking care of your mind, spirit and body, Ummelina is the place that allows you to do this. Try it out and experience the excellent care that I have had the pleasure to partake in...all my love to my fellow tribal members. Sincerly Amanda...Yakima Washington.
Pros: Ambience and serice is excellent!

From the moment you arrive at Ummelina, you feel the warm and friendly vibe of the place. I had a full day of services including a 90 minute Massage (by the amazing Stephanie!), a Healing Facial and the Crowning Glory (done with incredible skill and the magic hands of Fawn :) and an Aromatic Waters treatment with Amanda who was also just great. The spa is beautiful, tranquil, exotic and very unusual in the menu of services offered. Ummelina's global theme is so unique - just the aromas and decor send you off into another world of bliss and relaxation. I also enjoyed the Spa Lunch in their Apothecary where they blend their own herbal teas, which were incredible! My focus for the day was "detox" and I couldn't have been more pleased by the results. I felt wonderful when I left. I am from NY and was traveling on business. I will DEFINITELY return to this spa when I have the opportunity !! Don't look any further...
Pros: Ambience, Professional, Warm, Friendly, Caring Staff, Excellent Service and Products

I don't normally write reviews, but i thought i should give my 2 cents! I have been going to Ummelina for years. I have tried other spa's and even followed some of my therapists when they leave, but i alway's find myself coming back. All of the massages and facial i have had have been amazing. I never request anyone because everyone i have had is, yes, amazing! Thank you Ummelina for the years of great massages and the extractions i have desperatly needed and not wanted!!
Pros: always have a great staff
Cons: you have to leave when you are done with your massage

I had a crowning glory(?) and it was so wonderful. I needed some me time, but on a limited budget so i tried the crowing glory and it was everything and more! Even though the prices of some treatments can be a little pricey, i guess all downtown spa's are pricey, i found something affordable! it was only supposed to be 30 min. but i got a shower and a footbath that was a nice added surprise! I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Pros: warm oils, foot soak, great environment
Cons: none!!!

Customer service is the most important aspect of a spa. Ummelina really dropped the ball the day my sisters and I visited. My appt was for a "seaweed" pedicure and it was very expensive compared to others that I have had. I started out with their foot soak. The person that was assigned to me was new and really acted like he was new. Employees should practice on non paying customers before being allowed to work on those paying their very high prices. The therapists assigned to my sisters and other people in the lounge area all came to get their guests and I was left sitting there. One of the therapists came back in and told me that my therapist was very pregnant and was moving rather slowly but would be out in a minute. After 15 minutes I finally asked if my therapist was actually there and I was told that she had called in (she had missed her bus) but would be at the spa in 15 minutes. After waiting a half hour, my therapist showed up and was not apologetic in the least. The pedicure was nothing special and I got out of there much later than the rest of my family, making me late for our lunch reservation. Spas are a competitive business and there are many others in downtown Seattle. I will not be back to Ummelina.

This was my best spa experience ever. I love going to different spas and Ummelina's is far above the others. You can smell their fantastic spa aroma as you are going up the elevator and as soon as you walk in you feel pampered. Their robes are comfortable, they don't tie thus I wasn't adjusting it constantly like I do at other spas. The sanctuary was a great place to begin, relaxing with an outstanding foot bath & massage. If you are able to, get Nana he's a big African man who gives a fabulous foot massage and try to sit in the lounge in the corner, very comfy. I had a facial which was the best. Melanie, was very professional and made me feel like a queen, I think I fell asleep. Afterwards I had a shower with all their jets and sprays. They have all their products available for use and was able to wash my hair. Afterward I relaxed in the sanctuary in that comfy lunge chair with a heat wrap around my neck with some tea. What a fabulous way to end a stressful day, I felt so relaxed afterwards. The next day, my face looked fantastic from the facial, I'm going to go back and buy some of their products for daily use, my skin never felt so good. If you haven't been to Ummelina's before be sure to do so, you won't regret it.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: None

I called in early December '07 to book a party of 6. I got their voicemail so I called the next day. Again, I got their voicemail, this time I left my name, number, date of appt. and that it was a party of 6. Two weeks went by and I still hadn't heard anything. I called again and finally spoke to someone, she told me to email all the info, which I did that night. A week and a half later, I had no reply. I finally called a manager and explained the situation. I then told her we'd be taking our business elsewhere. I called a different spa and within 10 minutes they booked me 6 appts. Two weeks later, an Ummelina manager called me and explained that their group booking therapist had left the company due to an emergency. She tried to book us again, and I again told her that we'd be taking our business elsewhere. I am so apalled by the lack of service they showed me. I work at a high end spa and our #1 priority is our guests. If someone leaves the company, we have someone fill in for them. We NEVER let our guests feel unwanted and ignored.
Cons: customer service
