Overpriced for mediocre quality

by luckylucy103

Lovely atmosphere--dress up or not--good for conversation. Service was prompt and polite. Server who did our flambe was exceptionally skilled. Overall, quality of food did not meet my expectation and was overpriced for the lack of quality. We began with a nice bottle of wine (mid-priced, $60-70). Bread was not great--more like wonder white with a nice crust, but the herb spread was a nice touch. Caprese was fresh and beautifully presented. We were expecting the rest of our meal to be the same. Our next course was Dungeness Crab cakes, also beautifully plated, but they were very small, flat, horribly mushy and had no crab favor or texture whatsoever. My husband's gnocchi was very good--spicier than he preferred, but well prepared and I thought correctly seasoned. My linguine putanesca had great flavor, but the pasta was overcooked and the whole thing was kind of a glob on my plate. The sorbet was a lovely touch that not enough restaurants utilize, and should. Even with the lack of quality of 2 out of 4 courses, we decided to go for dessert because we couldn't resist the fun of a tableside flambe. My husband had his heart set on the peaches, I would have preferred the cherries, but agreed to peach. Server did a fantastic job (my husband tipped her $10 in additon to our usual 20%). The preparation of the dessert was classic and would have been perfect except that the peaches had no taste of peach. This is a shame in that there are fantastic Washington and Oregon grown peaches available, even canned, that burst with flavor. Coffee was good.

  • Pros: ambience; tableside flambe service
  • Cons: quality of food

Our favorite Late Evening Dining

by cooper2

My wife and I discovered this charming little dining room from an ad in the program from 5th Avenue Theatre. We made the drive to east lake because it was open late and we were hungry. The first time was amazing and every time since! Over the past two years we have eaten there after every show, symphony, and ballet. We have never had a bad meal and would highly recomond this to anyone.

  • Pros: Food, Service, Quaint Dining Room
  • Cons: Have not found any yet!

The cleanest restaurant I have ever seen

by kaptan

I am a supervisor at a local duct cleaning company. Many years ago while providing our services to Pomodoro, I noticed they maintained the cleanest kitchen I had ever seen in a commercial operation; I was so impressed that I became a customer ever since.

As a regular customer who loves the food, service and atmosphere at Pomodoro I know that the Chef is the most meticulous person I have ever met; he is obsessed with temperatures, hygiene and freshness and he has a great culinary mind. I love every thing I ever ate there, specially the chicken Gorgonzola and so does my dad.

  • Pros: Romantic, Food, Service, Parking
  • Cons: Not recommended for kids

Fabulous - always!

by penng

Great - just great. We have eaten there many times and it is always fabulous. Anatoly really knows how to season. Excellent recommendations on wine. We LOVE this place and it is really quite romantic. I really do not know what to recommend because EVERYTHING we have had is just fabulous.

  • Pros: Thumbs up - accross the board
  • Cons: ditto

It's a place I would like to like. However, I just felt the quality of service and food was for the price was not what I would expect. Average. Nothing exceptional in flavors. I felt the flavors were flat. The wine list was for what was offered and compared to "nicer" restaurants in the area. The space has potential for a quaint neighborhood restaurant.

  • Pros: Location, Size
  • Cons: Quality, Price

An inexpensive but very good Italian joint. Not the best Italian food, but the value, atmosphere and service are very good.

Always good and getting better

by kiroach

They must have taken some advice from the first reviewer; a cup of sorbet appeared between the appetizer and entree, but the bread could still be better. Louisa's bakery is just a block away !

The pasta dishes were delicious and plentiful, and although I had a disappointing first glass of wine, the waiter suggested a special pour he had only one bottle of, and it was outstanding.

I am never disappointed at Pomodoro, and really never tire of repeating my friend's comment the first time I brought her through the door: "Pomodoro... isn't that tomato for Italian ?"

  • Pros: Food, Parking, Late Night

What could be wonderful is just average

by ghs

I think they that are trying hard but missing the mark. The ambiance is cozy but some ambient lighting would add a lot. The food is good and I think the owner puts care into his menu but before I would offer a palate-cleaning sherbet in between courses I'd serve some better quality bread that is not COLD. The menu is high-end Italian with an emphasis on meats and fish. The wine list is ok - most folks will get by although the wines-bytheglass need updates to higher quality items served in better glasses. The service is lacking. Servers are nice but they need training in selling the product. There is no "urgency" and wait times for a visit to your table are too long. This place could be as packed. I'd love to go back.

  • Pros: Nice ambiance, Parking, Food is good
  • Cons: , uninspired wine list

Delicious Late-Night Feasting - Yay!

by JGriess

Have you ever craved a delicious, fresh, well-prepared Italian dinner late on a Sunday night, only to be disappointed by every restaurant being closed? Well, I certainly was, and found Pomodoro to be the answer. With a great selection of all the favorite pasta dishes, warm bread with basil olive oil, tasty house-made Italian dressings over fresh salad greens, scrumptious Veal Scallopini, and melt-in-your mouth Tiramisu, this cozy, romantic spot is sure to please.

  • Pros: Reasonable prices, Good parking, Excellent service
