Wonderful spot with stellar cakes!
by hubriis
Wonderful spot with stellar cakes! We frequent Simply Desserts often after dinner out and about in Fremont. The servings are generous so we tend to end up taking at least half home...but what's more fun than cake for breakfast the next morning?!?
simply the best

My absolute favorite cake in the world is the white chocolate strawberry cake from Simply Desserts. I'm not even a fan of white chocolate, but this cake is just the best. It's always moist and flavorful without being too sweet. I ordered this cake as our wedding cake - a small round one - perfect for our small wedding.
- Pros: great cakes
- Cons: atmosphere is not the greatest to hang out in
Awesome cake. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, it's tiny and has no atmosphere. If you have trouble shelling out $35 for a cake made with great quality ingredients and all butter, then maybe you should just go to the grocery store and get a cake laden with HFCS and partially hydrogenated soybean oil. Me, I'll take my delicious cake, in a tiny shop, on paper plates, and eat it with plastic forks, because it's just that good. The chocolate white chocolate is easily the best cake I've ever had.
My favorite place to order cake but not eat it there

The cakes are fabulous. The one issue I have with Simply Desserts is the customer service. They do not value their customers and service is shabby. I have been there many times and many times I am given abrupt and poor attitude by the people who work there. Yes, I was willing to take the abuse for their cakes.
I also agree with the other reviewers that there is no ambiance either. Considering the cost of a small slice of cake, it should be placed on a real plate with a real fork instead of a flimsy paper plate and plastic fork which bends when you try to take a bite. I assume this is so their customers order and take their cakes to go.
If the service and customer appreciation was better, this is a place I would drive across town for a slice of cake (to go) and happily pay for what they charge for a small piece of cake.
- Pros: Cakes
- Cons: Poor service and customer appreciation, ambiance, parking
Great cake for any occassion!
by alliespiritu
These cakes are to die for because not only are they not toooo sweet but their frosting is actaully made out of actual chocolate not powdered sugar and water. I love these cakes because they are moist but dense so you get all the flavors packed into this hearty piece of cake which is not uncontrollably sweet because the frosting of pure white or semi-sweet chocolate compliments the sweetness you'd be looking for in both the cake and frosting. All in all this cake is a must have at any occassion, my favorite is the white chocolate strawberry or the chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting.
Also they will totally accomadate you if you want a cake early in the morning, I needed a cake on Sunday morning before I headed to work and they were able to get it to me by noon. Totally worth it and they didn't make it seem like it was too much trouble at all!
- Pros: THE CAKE!
- Cons: Won't always have the cake you want available for single slice sale, street parking
A small space in Fremont offers big rewards with home-style sweets.

The Scene
Tucked into a little corner at the main intersection in Fremont, this is a haven for sweet tooths. Most people take desserts to go (they're available sized for single servings or group-feeding frenzies), but there are a few small tables perfect for a quick sugar fix and a frothy latte warmed up by the speedy, competent staff.
The Food
Forget the phrase "high-protein diet" and cuddle up to a fat- and carb-laden treat like a turtle brownie with a glass of milk, fresh fruit pie a la mode or black-bottom cupcake. Slices of cake are enough to feed a group--chocoholics should choose the towering slice of sweet chocolate-truffle cake, while fruit fans will adore the moist lemon-blueberry version.
A to-die for white chocolate cake!!!

I have never sat inside Simply Desserts and eaten cake, but I order their White Chocolate Strawberry cake for all my birthday parties!! The cake is thick and moist... almost like a cornbread and the white chocolate frosting and filling with real strawberry is just so crazily delicious. I have to base this whole review on this yummy and filling cake. Delicious! Expensive too, but I obviously have found it worth the price for special occasions.
- Pros: THE CAKE... white chocolate with strawberry
- Cons: Some might find it too pricey
Good for chocolate lovers, bad for everyone else.

We had to park a few streets away because there's no parking near the restaurant. When we got there, I noticed that while it's called "Simply Desserts," it really only seems to specialize in one thing - chocolate cake. They did have apple pie, cookies/brownies, and a slice or two of non-chocolate cakes, but I didn't feel like there was much choice for people who aren't chocolate obsessed. I had the chocolate Irish cream cake, which was good but got to be boring before I was done. My capuccino was pretty good. There wasn't much seating, and they didn't have anywhere to throw away your trash. My friend and I brought ours up to the server because we didn't want to take up the only remaining table with our garbage. It was nice for a late night snack, but if you don't want chocolate cake, I'd suggest going somewhere else.
- Pros: Lots of cake
- Cons: Not enough seating, Bad parking, Not much variety
ambiance, please
by stephseattle
This place needs some ambiance! The layout is awkward, you can't see the cakes in the case without hunching down awkwardly (please put the cakes at the front of the display), the cakes are served on cheap childhood picnic paper plates, and the cakes that were cut and on display were covered loosely with saran making them look old and goopy. Lighting is horrid and table tops have no style, which is why nobody probably eats there. However, the cakes we tried were fairly good, albeit a little too chocolaty...I like my chocolate with a little darkness balanced with lightness so it doesn't feel like a brick falling down my stomach. The cakes seemed to be more about substance than style, which is good fix for a sweet tooth rather than an elegant refined dessert.
Cake-a-licious

The cake is always fresh & moist. My favorite flavors are the orange-pumpkin with cream cheese frosting and the chocolate-caramel. If the rotating menu of cakes includes either of those when I stop by, you'll have to fight me for the last slice!
