Blandest Thai Food In the City
by seattlefoodlover
Disappointed......we ordered several dishes and they were all bland. We ordered our food with 3 stars and it was still incredibly tasteless. If you are a thai food lover and like the rich distinctive flavors normally found in your favorite dishes save your money and try another thai restaurant. The city has lots of good ones. Unfortunately Jai Thai is not one of them!
- Cons: Parking, service
I will be back! Great owner, fun atmosphere, reasonable food, very Fremont
by nouveaubamboo
Ok, they have undergone changes and I hope reviewers realize we can all have a bad day. Still packed with locals and the new owner who used to be the waiter and is now an accountant is a sweetheart. I asked for a few off the menu items and got them. Food was fast, water was ok and the service was very Asian...........
It is a great place to meet friends and sit comfortably. The food is good, a bit Americanized for the crowd but still tasty and fresh. I go there, I like it and have never had a bad meal. I love their currys and I know that they will readjust to taste-I brought someone who doesn't know Thai style and wanted their curry different. It was cheerfully adjusted and everyone left happy.
This is a happy place, big and airy and maybe could use a tweak here or there but generally it is warm and inviting, portions are generous-the lunch combos are great. The location could not be more perfect-in the heart of the heart of Fremont.
- Pros: Warm invitiing space to meet with friends and easily accomodate large groups
I won't be back

The uncooked potatoes in the veggie curry dish was bad enough, but to extract a hair from a spoonful I was chewing is more than I can handle. At least they didn't make me pay, but I'll never go back. P.S. - Aren't cooks supposed to wear hair nets? Theirs weren't.
- Pros: Prices
- Cons: Strand of hair in food
Great Food, declining friendly service with expansion
by tomnseattle
I have loved Jai Thai for years, as I used to live in Fremont. However as the restaurant has expanded into other neighborhoods like Belltown, Capitol Hill, Northgate, etc., I have discovered that their customer service has become much less friendly -- down-right impersonal at the Capitol Hill location. But, still great food -- just get "to go" so you don't have to deal with the employees.
bad food

I'm asian, I've had thai food in New York, San Fran, Seattle, LA, Vancouver and I love thai food. I'll try to keep this review as informative as possible.
The restaurant takes red chili pepper flakes that you put on pizza (think the little red pepper packs you get at costco) and puts it on your dish depending on the # of stars you order. So why ask how hot you want it if you aren't going to cook it any spicier? Just leave the pepper flakes on the table for me to sprinkle on.
The pad see eew was soggy (wok not hot enough syndrome), lacking the delicious browning you get when the noodles are cooked right. Because it was so soggy, the eggs also turned into a soggy used coffee grind texture instead of the chunks of eggs that are fried with the pad see ew flavors.
Our massaman curry had a total of 3 small pieces of beef. Maybe I'm being too picky about the above observations, but you have to at least serve enough food right???!!! My girlfriend's excuse for the lack of quantity was that I shouldn't eat so much anyway. But being a devotee to pad see ew, she too was highly disappointed.
Unbelievably HORRIBLE Waiter!!!!!!! AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by ac0496
The 4 of us at dinner received sub-par service throughout our meal from our waiter in the following ways; we did not receive all the rice we ordered, we had to flag down some other waiter to receive more water after waiting for our waiter to come back & check with us on how the food was, (my food was much spicier than what I ordered). When it came time to pay the bill, my friend filled out the credit card slip for the tip (at almost 15%). The waiter came back to pick it up and immediately scrutinized the amount of tip we left him. He said that we didn't even tip him 20% and that we should fix it. He gave us back the ticket and basically told us to give him more money. My friend then justified the amount we gave him and that this was extremely rude to question how much we wanted to GIFT him in tip. THEN he goes to get a calculator to argue what 20% of our bill would have been. Can you believe this????? We're all adults, not 13-year olds who don't know how to tip. He verbally accosted us and said that if we said the service was fine, we should have tipped more. In essence, he felt that we had betrayed him or something for making him think that he'd receive a bigger tip when we felt he shouldn't have. The moral of this story is; don't go to Jai Thai. The food did not outshine the HORRENDOUSLY BAD SERVICE offered by this waiter. We should have taken the entire tip off the bill because he surely did not deserve a cent after this episode. Don't go to Jai Thai in Fremont if you don't want to get called out on your tipping practices. I will tell everyone I know never to go to that place again.
- Cons: SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE
I'll be back

Their curry fried rice is to die for, enough for me to overlook their faults. if they made it with brown rice, I would eat there even more often. I also order the yellow chicken curry soup and brown rice to go with it as a substitute for white. The chicken seems rather processed, lean and dry. More of a texture addition, and not the star of the dish. Usually the sauces make up for mediocre meat. Just don't order the chicken on a bed of spinach with peanut sauce on top. The peanut sauce seems like it came from a grocery store jar, too thick. They don't usually bring us all of the drinks we order, but we'll be back anyway. Must have Yellow Chicken Curry!
Great service, we loved Chai!
by tinitime
We got the late night hunger pangs while drinking at another Fremont establishment and walked down to Jai Thai. Our waiter, Chai, greeted us and seated us right away. He was very friendly and I loved his nature, God knows I wouldn't be able to deal with the late night drunken patrons. If you go, ask for Chai! :)
It's all about the noodles at this cozy Fremont favorite.

In Short
With its red walls, ornate decorations and dependable menu items, this Fremont Thai restaurant draws a steady crowd of neighborhood regulars to its bar and dining area. Homemade noodles elevate the otherwise standard pad thai and take center stage in the savory drunken noodles. Spicy, comforting tom yum soup is chock-full of vegetables, meat and tangy lemongrass.
quick hot lunch

I went to Jai Thai today with some girls from work and we were very pleased with the quick service and great meal. We were seated promptly and after ordering our food came out in less than 10 minutes. The food was wonderful. The only down side is that you cannot have them split the check.
