by banditu03
I was last week over the Yanni's place and i liked the food and service they had. I thing is the best place to eat in or to take out the real Greek food.
Thank you very much...

Great experience!!!

First of all I must confess that I am not a big fan of dinning out ..I would rather cook something myself and enjoy it with a few friends in the cosiness of my house. But a few days ago a good friend of mine invited me to this apparently common Greek restaurant called Yanni's for dinner and to catch up on things .What it was supposed to be something common ...gradually turned into something very special...I mean the servers there were really nice, polite and patient and gladly explained the menu since the titles in there where somehow hard to understand if you were not familiar with the Greek cuisine..also the food was definitely entirely cooked after they took our order since it took quite a while to have it on the table ..and boy it was worth it!!!I I had the lamb shank and it was the best lamb I have had so far. I hate when the food it's previously precooked and they just warm it after they take your order to the kitchen...and unfortunately this is a very common practise in the majority of the American restaurants...sad!My friend had the chicken souvlaki and he simply loved it.The atmosphere was calm and friendly, again the service was extraordinary and the food ... many compliments to the chef.Definitely going back there for more
- Pros: Best lamb ever!!

ive been going to Yannis for a few years now and have always had amazing service and the food? omg just yummy! i haven't had anything yet i haven't loved! good food made by real down home Greeks, you can't get any better then that!
I formed my own opinion...Yannis Rocks!!!

I have been going to Yannis for over 10 years now. When I have friends in town I make it a point if they enjoy greek food to go there. Best soup in town I tell you. And those potato's, oh my yum.
It's upsetting to read some reviews about slow service. I prefer to say "layed back". If you want fast food I suggest you head to jack in the box of the cheesecake factory.
I like to have a glass of wine and enjoy the company that I am with. I hate when food is shoved in your face and you are rushed out of the place.
The staff at Yannis is genuine and friendly. They remember you. They say hello, welcome you back, make suggestions then let you enjoy your evening without being pushy or in your face.
The food is delicious and the portions are enough for you to take home for a midnight snack or lunch the following day.
If something is incorrect they fix it. I think people need to remember that we are all human. Mistakes are allowed. I have never had a problem with my order that could not be easily solved.
As I said I have been a patron of Yannis for over 10 years. I feel at home there. Great food, good area. I keep going back.
----Oh and no matter how stuffed you are, order the galactobureko (how ever you spell it) SO delicious.
- Pros: great food and friendly service
- Cons: inpatient people next to us.
One wasted evening and wasted space on Greenwood Avenue.

we went to Yanni's for an early dinner (6:30) on Friday night; five adults and two kids. The place was not crowded. When we finally left @ 9:15 we had still not received our dinner. We had received our soups/salads which by the way were wrong. Their service, albeit friendly enough, is a joke. Luckly the kids, both three, were saints. The husbands stuck around to get our dinner's to-go while the ladies carted off the family. By the time we got home to eat the food was cold and rather bland. This was our first and last time to eat here. From the sounds of other reviewers this is typical of their service. Too bad.
- Pros: at least they apologized, even if it was fake.
- Cons: incredibly slow service, very average food,
Go for the evening!!!

They say "good things come to those who wait" and I would say that is a great description of Yanni's. I have been on multiple occasions and althought the service was not "speedy" by any means, it was polite and helpful, and the food...... Amazing! We went as a group this last weekend and knowing the slow service reputation, planned ahead for it. We had drinks and appetizers, and when we went to order we were able to have great input from our server. I ended up getting the special which was a marinated pork chop (actually turned out to be two full bone in pork chops...) and the flavor was amazing, with the olives, mushrooms, and onions... I couldn't wait to have the leftovers.
I have been to several other greek restaurants around the city and this one tops the list for me (even the waiting)!!!
- Pros: fabulous food, great atmosphere
- Cons: slow service
Avoid every night :)

I am Macedonian by nationality. I am not saying that to spark any unnecessary political debate, just to let you know I have been around Greek cousine my whole life and know what it should taste like.
This restaurant was far from that. Their greek salad was very american, the gyro was absolutely TERRIBLE and the feta cheese was disappointing. However, the Souvlaki was delicious and the baklava was dead on. Just delicious. I really wanted a good gyro but they failed to perform.
There are other places in Seattle where you can spend your money and have better Greek food. Trust me. Come here for some good dessert or just totally bypass this restaurant. The atmosphere is inauthentic and the food is below average. This is also not a good place to spend a romantic evening with someone you care about. It lacks a bit of character. Although, with the right person, any restaurant will seem fitting ;)
- Pros: good baklava!
- Cons: Americanized food, poor atmosphere
I'd rather eat slugs
by KariLeigh
Okay> If you're going to have to wait for your food, it better be pretty darn good. In this case, its really not. My lovely dining companion waited >>1 hr (and paid $17) for 4 tiny cups of dip and a small pile of goo that were underwhelming at best. I had the Pastitcio, which was tastless and also gooey. The server paid no attention to us, and service was like a slug waiting for the right time to cross I-5 during rush hour.
Life is precious. This place is a waste of time, money and sanity.
Something right out of MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING!

This was my first try at Greek in Seattle and I loved it. I had to go 2 times a week for 3 weeks until I moved away. Let's see...the Avgalemeno Soup is great! The Horatiki Salad is fresh and flavorful. The special menu items you can only find there because its family owned and operated are outstanding. LOVE IT!
