Small neighbood diner with depth at breakfast. No refills offered.
by WSeattleFoodie
After reading reviews, I decided to try Pete's Egg Nest. In the Greenwood area down the street from Wing Dome, lies this small diner with about 11-12 tables. Closing at 3pm on Sundays, I dropped by at 2 to get past the rush and after church business to have a nice breakfast.
There is quite a variety of breakfast choices on the menu as well as lunchtime fare. Prices are reasonable and from what I see, portions are generous.
A well worn photocopied specials page attached to the menu and I tried their pork scrambler. A play on biscuits and gravy, this was served with homemade cornmeal biscuits which then had scrambled eggs mixed with mushrooms, cheese and thin strips of pork. Gravy topped this and was accompanied by hash browns.
What was nice was that the gravy was a nice amount, without flooding the entire plate. There was just the right amount to have some with each bite of egg and biscuit. The hash browns were done well and not greasy.
What was disappointing was lack of seasoning. Ham can be very salty and can impart saltiness, this was not the pork used in this dish. Gravy desperately needed salt and pepper. Eggs and mushrooms needed seasoning. The hash browns could have used some seasoning as well. I'm not a salt and pepper hound. In fact, I refrain from touching those on the table because I want to taste what the cook wants me to taste, which in this case, was decent, but lacked depth. While I understand consideration for those on low salt diets, consider what basic cooking books and schools teach... Properly season each component and then adjust the entire dish, if needed.
I'll probably come back to try again, because it was NOT bad food. Parking was on street and can be a little tough. Service was friendly, but was never offered any refills on my coffee or water. Considering diner waitresses are stereotyped as having a coffee carafe glued to the hand, I was not impressed there, especially because they were not busy.
- Pros: Variety of food
- Cons: Lack of seasoning and waitresses didn't offer refills on coffee or water.
Pete's is the best for breakfast - especially the bacon!
by pearlharbr
We used to live just around the corner and ate at Pete's every weekend. The large portions made for two or more meals and we actually ate the leftovers, rare for us. I love the special french toast like banana walnut. My boyfriend loves the meat and cheese scramble, which is crazy because he ordinarily doesn't like eggs. But what really got me hooked was when they asked me how I wanted my bacon cooked. I love extra crispy bacon but my boyfriend likes limp bacon so it was great to find a restaurant that understands and makes this accommodation. And the bacon is thick cut so even when crispy it's flavorful. Mmmm, bacon.
Since living in Seattle we've moved to Anchorage and Denver and we're always looking for a breakfast place that compares with Pete's--we haven't found it yet.
- Pros: bacon! large portions
- Cons: parking, crowded on weekends

Extremely popular egg dishes and French toast at this friendly, Greek-run breakfast spot in Greenwood.
best breakfast in town

Pete's is the greatest. Best food, largest menu, biggest plates and the most friendly staff. Their specials are unbelievable. If you have not been here you have to go. This is THE place I always bring anyone from out of town.
- Pros: everythin! I can't say one bad thing
- Cons: nothing
Nothing beats Pete's

Hands down, Pete's is the best breakfast spot in Seattle! I've dined at a mojority of the recommended eateries in the city and Pete's take the cake. The service is fantastic, and unlike one of the previous reviews, I found that they are very accomodating to customers. Once (out of the DOZENS of times I've dined there) they forgot to add sausage to my omelette. When I politely informed them, they not only fixed it right away, but gave me the other one on the house to take home for leftovers.
Their menu is fabulous and they will remember you when you come in for a 2nd time. Great family!!!
- Pros: Diverse menu, great service, great value
- Cons: small dining quarters
great breakfast joint!!

One of the best breakfasts in Seattle! What a value..My pesto omellete was un believable as were my girlfriends gigantic, perfectly cooked pancakes. And at baragain prices you just cant go wrong!
- Pros: food, price, service

Pete's Egg Nest may seem at first to have a fairly standard menu. Look again... Their specials are unbelievable and cooked with such care and concern for flavor. I love the family-run aspect of this restaurant, which itself is quite unassuming in appearance. Service here is great for how busy it is and the staff are always friendly and provide a sense of energy.
I can't emphasize enough how delicious the food is. The Athenian Greek Scramble is a party for my taste-buds.
- Pros: Great Food, Family Run, Original
- Cons: Busy
fantastic

i love this place! this family run joint is great. they remeber your name, what you order, even how you like the bacon cooked. they have large portions, cheap prices, great service, and the best bacon ive had at a breakfast place, you can order it crispy, rare, however you like it. its a small place on greenwood where you will go back again and again as long as the line isnt too big. go to petes!
- Pros: inexpensive, great bacon, great service

That last reviewer must have been having a bad day. I eat there all the time and have NEVER had anything but a great experience. Sure they are always busy so they may not have time to chit chat, but the food is fast and always good and the portions are huge. You will not leave hungry. Personally, I like to support small family run businesses as there are not that many left.
- Pros: inexpensive, friendly, good food
I'd Rather Go Hungry...
by kellet
than eat at Pete's Egg Nest, where the rude, slow service and the horrible food made me leave hungry. The waitress was unapologetic when my "omelette" (you could hardly call it that) came back to me incorrectly made for the THIRD time. I was still charged for the food, and had to argue with a manager to get it removed. I will never go back to Pete's Egg Nest. It was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Bad Food, Bad Service
