Openly Flaunts Smoking Laws

by TiredTin

They have a very inviting deck with a great selection of beer. We tried to sit on this deck but found it too smokey, thanks to the stylish couple a few feet upwind. Rather than complain and risk being ostracized (think George & the Dragon) we opted to walk to the Uber Tavern (which also features a small deck with smokers!) I have reported them both to King Co. Public Health.

Disreguard the older reviews

by bepeace

Thankfully this place has been under new ownership since 2006 and it has a totally different feel. The new owners live in the neighborhood and really care about the pub and the people. If you are looking for a low key neighborhood hang out this is it. There is incredible music every Thursday and sometimes on Wednesday and Sunday. The free pool is nice. The tap beer selection is awesome and rotates weekly. Olimpia, Guinness, and Manny's are always on with 2-3 rotating IPAs and an ecclectic mixture of other local styles and seasonals. Great selection of Belgian Bottles. Pretty nice Scotch and Whisky selection too. The menu is pub food (great wings and fries) and the use of organic chicken and beef is a nice touch. Cool bartenders who are actually nice. The regulars are welcoming and the atmosphere is totally unpretentious. This place is a great for happy hour (Good cheap beer), evenings are pretty mellow and late night usually has a really fun industry crowd.

  • Pros: great beer and people
  • Cons: can get loud

A superior selection of microbrews and a casual setting distinguish this Phinney favorite.

by Contributor

The Scene
With its dim lighting, rich interior colors and sparse decorations, Park Pub is like a classy-cool Capitol Hill tavern transported to more humble Phinney Ridge. Neighbors and commuters alike revel in the respite Park Pub offers from the downtown bar scenes, as well as the surrounding suburbia. Even on busy nights, patrons can typically locate a table or ample booth, where they can share a well-seasoned pint of fries and a relaxed conversation.

The Draw
Fifteen microbrews are on tap--mostly regional--including seven rotating varieties; there's also a large selection of bottle Belgian beers. The Park's varied, well-rendered and reasonably-priced menu includes the expected nachos, pizzas and savory burgers, as well as more ambitious entrees such as seafood paella and sea bass salad. All of the chicken and hamburger dishes are certified organic.

not fremont, thank god!

by loudvoice

This is a cool place to kick back and relax. Cheesy frat boys, the so-called hipsters of Capitol Hill and in-crowd wanna-bes of Fremont do occasionally annoy the regulars at The Pub, but hey it's a bar. The food is superior to any "pub" food and the staff is cool, if you're not pretentious and all-knowing. Here's a hint...it's Phinney Ridge. A great neighborhood who welcomes The updated Park Pub.

  • Pros: food, atmosphere, beer selection

Bring Back Bruce!!

by k2dogg

This place used to be my Monday thru Friday divey watering hole. Now, it is trying to be too 'Fremont'. If I wanted that kind of atmosphere I would go to Fremont. Bruce (the original owner) needs to come back and make this place cool again. There are one or two (if any at this point) regulars still frequenting this bar. The regulars were one of the major draws. It was a 'safe' non-meet-market kind of place. Now it just sucks. I didn't feel welcome in my hiking boots and ratty jeans like I always used to. Skip the Park Pub and go across the street for a hot dog and good crowd.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: 'Fremont' crowd

Good beer, tasty pint-o-fries

by cinnagrl

Good beer selection (several local microbrews including my favorite Boundary Bay IPA!). Kitchen is great - very tasty bar munchies, particularly their fries. Not as smoky as other pubs in the area.

  • Pros: not too smoky, good beer selection, tasty fries
  • Cons: dingy bathrooms

trying hard to be trendy

by miga

This used to be a friendly, low-key, unpretentious, slightly dingy neighborhood pub with a good beer selection and standard pub grub. Ownership changed, the place got remodeled and now tries to be a trendy bar. The new interior decoration draws from colorblindness and plain bad taste, the menu sounds a bit more fancy than it used to (but the quality lags behind), the beer selection is still good (if you manage to get service), the music on occasion borders on acoustic pollution. Judging from the few souls who find their way here on weeknights, this place has achieved the trendiness and popularity of a transfer station.

It takes more than orange and blue paint to turn a neighborhood pub into a cool bar, and Phinney isn't Fremont. Fortunately.

  • Pros: beer selection
  • Cons: atmosphere, service

Bartender thinks Pale means 'light'

by ac19

This place has nice pool tables and the atmosphere is fine. However, I was puzzled that the bartender didn't seem to know anything about beer. I asked for a Pale Ale or an IPA and he said, "If you want something light..." and tried to offer me a Pilsner. Then he suggested Anchor Steam which is an Amber. I finally went up to the bar to look for myself and they had four IPA's!
