Great service at a great price
by gracegriffin
I understand from the student that cut my hair that someone just bought Greenwood Academy. It already looks a lot better than the last time I was in there. The new paint was bright and fun, the lobby looked more inviting and it was really clean. The person that cut my hair did a great job. There was always an instructor around to supervise if needed. The prices can't be beat. They do everything from cuts, coloring, waxing, facials, manicures and pedicures. They offer all the services a salon does at a price everyone can afford.
- Pros: Great prices
Good prices, kind and friendly service

You can get basically all your salon services here from facials to perms to waxing. The prices are very good and they use top quality products. You will be serviced by students but they are skilled and supervised so it is easy to foget they are students. The facial part of the building is quite and peaceful.
- Pros: Great price
- Cons: Not the most posh of atmospheres
Horrible experience from when i first walked in the door
by vunde
The first time I went to the academy I had an awful experience, the woman who cut my hair was graduating that day and was telling me all the horror stories of how horrible the environment was there. Not only that but you could see how all the woman were talking about eachother. The price was good, but not relaxing at all! Oh and not to mention my the color i wanted in my hair did not come out the way i wanted it. So when i needed my hair done again, i didnt feel like spending lots of money so i decided (stupidly) to give this place a second chance...bad idea! I was there for a appt. that lasted till closing. The two male owners or managers were so passive aggressive and irritated that i hadnt left yet, even my hair stylist said they need to chill out. My hair color was messed up that i ended up going back somewhere else. I highly recommend that you do not come here if you're getting color done on your hair! Youll end up having to go somewhere else to get it fixed.
- Pros: good for a hair cut or something not complicated
- Cons: bad for chemical treatment
Great Facials Galore!!!!!
by melaniejones
Wow! that is what comes to mind when I think about the facials at greenwood academy. most people don't even know that there is a spa in this north seattle beauty school. I my self am a licsened esthetican for 8 years and i my self enjoy having a facial. after years of bouncing around various high end spa's in the seattle area i have found a place that gives better facials and service than most of the high end diggs.
first my therapist never left the room. when i was masking she asked me would i like a hand or scalp massage i chose scalp can you say aahhh.... everthing was personalized for my skin at the time of the appointment, something you rarely get in spa services. the instructors were hands on and very current. the students seemed to light up when conversing with their educators about the service and appropiate products. This bring up another great reason to go here for facials you leave not only feeling refreshed and looking good, but you also leave being more educated about your skin and your concerns, before you start your service you are checked in by the instrucors and students this process involes them sitting down with you and really talking to you about what they see and feel and what they reasonable do!! with 4 amazing product lines to choose from :aveda-dermalogica-eminence-murad- as well as glycoic peels and tons of anti aging therapy were else can you and a friend have an aveda facial in the same room for $40.00 plan to be there for an hour and a half of good times
- Pros: great service-great price-great central location-lots to do in area
I almost hate to share my pedicure secret!
by tifmitch
This is one of the best places in Seattle to get a pedicure. Yes, the atmoshere does not scream "spa". True, the people working on you are students. And yes, there is only street parking.
So...what makes this place so great? The price is unbeatable, the work are great, and best of all: the students really care about their craft. They are meticulous and friendly. Street parking is fairly reasonable early in the day and on weekdays. Enjoy the spa pedicure. It's a few bucks more than the regular pedicur, but they really give you the royal treatment.
- Pros: Nice work, great price, friendly people, awesome spa pedicure, punctual, polite, no pressure.
- Cons: Street parking and beauty school ambience.
Cramped space and lopsided results
by broadview_gal
After years of going to only the high priced salons, I thought I'd give the neighborhood academy a try on a lazy Saturday afternoon. The chairs are so tight that only one can be rotated at a time otherwise, knees and footrests would collide. The stylists are typically young and trendy and all seemingly with boyfreind problems that they must tell everyone within earshot about. The haircut took over an hour and the results are somewhat lopsided. Good thing the price was so cheap.
- Pros: price
Rockin new hair for cheap!!
by juanita_gallagher
I know that it sounds a bit scary, and I wouldn't usually go to a 'training school' for a haircut, but step inside the place, and you're surrounded by these fab, hip students. . .(ignore the scary trapped in the 90's instructors - they'll only 'ok' the students fab haircut) who'll totally give you what you're looking for. It takes sometimes twice as long as you'd typically spend in a hair salon, but you'll leave with a fat wallet, and a luscious haircut, color and style for like $35 bucks. Go see Sara Chest, she's the best one I've gone to so far. Very low key escape from the snooty-salons!
- Pros: cheap!!
- Cons: takes a while
