Amazingly Amazingtastic

by alesandra2

So I was looking up my grandpa's name on google and came across this. The founder of Hole-in-the-Wall, and one of the greatest chili/BBQ chefs in the world, was Chuch Forsyth. Unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago, but its wonderful to know his legacy carries on with his resturant.

If you're ever passing by in Seattle, I would highly recommend stopping by Hole-in-the-Wall. (My uncle took the buisiness over) The BBQ sandwiches & chili are my personal favorites.

  • Pros: great food, warm atmosphere, friendly & fast service
  • Cons: slightly crowded, only open during lunch

Top Service, Best BBQ, Best Price

by ttcox

Our law firm had these folks cater our annual summer shin-dig for 50 people and they did an amazing job! Not only was the beef, pork, turkey and hot links huge hits, they have homemade BBQ baked/smoked beans which were out of this world. I had a ton of compliments on the food from the lawyers and guests. We'd use them again in a heartbeat.

Good Sauce, Great Smoky Taste

by hdeber34

My wife and I have been trying to get here for quite awhile, since it is only open for about 3 hours a day 11am till 2 pm. We phoned the shop to ensure they would still be serving and to get some needed directions around 1:15pm.... to our surprise they were. We made it to the restuarant and walked in the door and wow the name "Hole in the Wall" say's it all. It is small and cramped with a great aroma floating in the air. They do have a seating in the way of a small but useful bar if you can find a place to sit. We came during the holidays and close to closing so found room easy to find. Simple menu with beef, Pork, Chicken and chili plus the usual sides. We had the Beef brisket (normal sauce level since we were headed for a show) and were not disappointed at all. The beef was tender and smoky the way BBQ should be. By the time we were full and satisfied there must have been 15-20 people come and go. I'll try the chili the next time. Great BBQ..

  • Pros: Great Smoked Meats
  • Cons: Hours of Operation

This downtown institution feeds the barbecue-hungry business crowd.

by Contributor

The Scene
Since 1989, Chuck Forsyth has been serving mouthwatering barbecue sandwiches and award-winning chili to health-unconscious office jocks in his aptly named downtown Seattle eatery. It's just around the corner from the Smith Tower, or as Forsyth puts it: "Conveniently located between the saloons of Pioneer Square and King County Jail." Service is brisk and friendly.

The Food
When the brisket hits the bun, the Bullwacker barbecue sauce (Forsyth's homemade coffee-based concoction) seeps out the sides, practically by the pint. Lean-meat freaks would be wise to choose the smoked breast of turkey sandwich. Otherwise, there's a shredded barbecued pork sandwich, hot link sausages and three traditional sides: barbecued beans, coleslaw and potato salad. And of course, the laudable chili which comes in mild, medium (a safe starting point for beginners) and hot.

Really?

by smokinsam

Things I didn't like: When you do ribs, you're supposed to pull the membrane off the back of the set of ribs. That which differentiates BBQ from Grilling is time, I'd bet these tough ribs were cooked in an hour. No "bark" (dry rub) to speak of on the outside of the ribs, the meat was cooked-grey, not pink from smoke like it should be, and the sauce was sweet and uninteresting. It had heat, but no cahones. Very 2-dimensional sauce. In my book, cole slaw has MAYO (definitely different from Hole's vinegar dressing style slaw)

  • Pros: The IPA is excellent

This is the real deal, mister!

by dadbear

In order to keep our toxin levels high, every Friday I gather up as many co-workers as I can an make the trek down to Hole In The Wall. We are never disappointed! The minute you walk in the door you know it's gonna be good. Try the BBQ meat loaf on Mondays, but get there early before it's gone! Always order "wet" to make sure you get a heapin' helpin' of sauce.

  • Pros: Quick and friendly, Outstanding meat, Killer sauce

OK Q

by troutonfly

The Q is OK...not fabulous, but good. Prices are OK. The guys who work there are great. It's fine for lunch, but I wouldn't take an out of town guest there when there's better just down on Beacon Hill at Willie's.

  • Pros: service, OK meat, good sauce
  • Cons: a little pricey, kinda' blah

great lunch

by doug_f

Great food, great value, don't wear your best suit unless you don't mind sauce stains. Real quality brisket, consistently good. Go early as they run out of food frequently.

  • Pros: food, atmosphere, value
  • Cons: parking

Best Brisket Sandwiches

by truth_teller

Much better brisket than Dixies. If you want a beef or pork bbq sandwich, this is the place! If you want chicken, go to Three Pigs or Tony Roma's. If you want to waste your time in line, go to Dixies!
