Hidden Beauty

by stephh3

This restaurant is by far my favorite. You can't get a better deal in town, especially for the awesome food they serve. Huge variety, hard to choose once you pick your favorites, but cheap enough to get all of them! I love this restaurant, never been dissapointed...except for the service.

  • Pros: Delicious, Affordable
  • Cons: Service, Atmosphere

Hands down best Chinese food outside of Chendu

by kkchen

This place has the most spicy, mouth watering (or numbing if prefer) food anywhere. The prices are great and the staff is very helpful if you ask. For newbies, I'd start with the dry-cooked chicken, boiled fish, and twice-cooked pork. All three, IMHO, are the best tasting food you can buy with any amount of money - I'm not kidding.

Unlike most other Chinese food places that serve Chinese-American food, this place is down-home Sichuan cuisine. Authentic, period. It tastes like my grandma use to make it, and reminds me of home... Maybe it'll take you far away.

  • Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Amazing food
  • Cons: Too, busy, eating...

HEAVENLY HOT POT

by hanishas

You have not experienced the best of Seattle or Chinatown until you have been to this place! The hot pot is simply fabulous...and the pot stickers are simply to die for, in fact you can actually take uncooked ones home to serve at a party! itll make you want to go back again and again, there is a reason this place breeds regulars, once you've been here you'll never want to go anywhere else!

YUmmy!

  • Pros: HOT POT, cheap and good, friendly staff
  • Cons: lighting, too loud sometimes

The BEST Chinese!

by lisif

I can't believe that this place only rates an average review from most people - so I'm going to tell you how it is. This place is the best. The food is fresh and has plenty of actual ginger and garlic. The house hot sauce is complex, made with nutty roasted dried chiles. Try "Ants Climb A Log" or the oddly named "Beef Miscellany", or if you're carb counting try "Sliced Fish with Pickled Peppers". If you have a group, try the hot pot - excellent but a bit intimidating for two. I admit that the spicy chow mein did not bowl me over, but I just order one of the many many other wonderful options! The hours are good and the prices are even better.

  • Pros: Delicious, Inexpensive, Good Service
  • Cons: , Atmosphere

Simple and satisfying Chinese, with a special, secret menu of fiery Szechuan selections.

by Contributor

The Scene
Lunch can be crowded with employees from nearby dot-coms, while dinner tends to be populated by older neighborhood residents. Either way, there's nothing much to look at in this simple establishment--clean and nondescript, it's the food and camaraderie that are the focus here.

The Food
The menu initially appears tamer than its Eastside sister location, as the house specialties are listed only on the whiteboard--and only in Mandarin. Cashew chicken is texturally pleasing, with fat chunks of tender meat playing off crunchy cashews and celery. Pork dishes are standouts: salty-sweet, twice-cooked pork with leeks is a real winner, while pork fried rice is a filling meal with plenty of rich flavor. Crisp green onions lighten up both. Rice arrives automatically, and tea is mild and smoky.

Heavenly!

by dimenxia

This place cannot be beat when it comes to great tasting food. Sure, the interior may be a bit small and sometimes a tad grimy, but the food is so excellent that the surroundings are a non-issue. I'd highly recommend the "Special Spicy Beef Noodle" (a heaping plate for $4.95!) and the "Spicy String Beans." The prices are low, the servings are large, and most importantly, the food is heavenly. I can't get enough of this place!

  • Pros: Delicious food, Cheap, Large servings
  • Cons: Small, sometimes dirty, bad for groups

Lao Szechuan

by alsommer

Travelers to China will feel at home in (or at least, not detered by!) the linoleum-heavy, somewhat grubby, atmosphere. The down-home style food is the draw. For an ideal introduction you to its delights, try mapo tofu (with meat), potstickers, four seasons green beans, family-style eggplant & stewed Sichuan style beef (on the white board). Delish! Once hooked, some friends & try the "Numbingly Hot" Hotpot (direct translation!), which comes with the mentioned "numbingly hot" broth, as well as a more mild version. Think of it as Chinese fondue: you dip tofu, cabbage, rice noodles & thinly sliced beef & lamb (as well as tripe, if you're inclined) into the broth & then slurp it up. Add some beer to wash down the heat & you'll be in heaven. Oh, and did I mention it's VERY reasonably priced?.

  • Pros: delicious, authentic, inexpensive
  • Cons: a bit grimy, crowded
