I can't get enough of this place... As a poor college student the Frye Art Museum is an inexpensive way to enjoy art. **When I say inexpensive, I mean FREE** I love to come here to enjoy the permanent collection as well as rotating exhibits. Exhibitions like Robert Crumb, Mark Ryden, Willie Cole and Amy Helfand keep me coming back. I can't articulate what a wonderful place this museum is, but this hidden gem is always worth the visit.

Pros: Free, peaceful, entertaining, educational and free parking

This is a nice free museum with a very small and ecclectic collection mostly German painters who worked between 1850 and 1915. However, there was a special exhibit on a painter named Darger, which is very innappropriate. It is TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE to have children portrayed without any clothing on and as victims of torture (tied up to trees) in an art museum and then passing this off as art.

Pros: Free

Cons: Inappropriate exhibit

I came upon the Frye Museum by accident. I was happened to walk by it on a day that it had already closed. I had no idea that it was even in that area and Ive lived near by for over a year. I finally got a chance to go inside and was amazed by the collection. Some of the pieces are just so bold and life like, you cant help but just stare. What a great find here in Seattle. Can't wait to go back.

Pros: Free, Great Art, Good Layout

Cons: Odd Hours, No Advertisting

The Frye is a gift to the people of Seattle. The museum has a clear idea of what is trying to do and is refreshingly diverse at the same time. The permanent collection is really a jumping off point-representational art is the forte here. I always take a minute to walk by the grand portraits of the founders-Charles and Emma Frye-and appreciate just what a grand legacy they have left us. You should too.

Pros: Free!, Great Cafe, Sleek Design

This is a beautiful little museum. I have only been here once, a couple of years ago and was impressed by their special exhibit (I think it was English art) and their permanent collection. It's the perfect place to spend a lazy weekend afternoon. There is a cafe that looks cute, although I haven't tried it yet. I plan to revisit again soon.

Pros: FREE!, Permanent collection

If you haven't been there, go. It's useless for this reviewer to attmept describing the museo in his neighborhood. Just get there, and you'll see why (in a good sense, of course). I think Museums are not to be described - only visited.

Pros: Well kept secret

Cons: Well kept secret
