As a 22 year old it is well expected that a bouncer will ask for your ID and give it a good hard look. Not look at all other 10 forms of ID, accuse you of stealing someone's identity, tell you that the ID that you do have is your older sister's who doesnt exist. And then take it to the point that you have to call the police so that you can even keep your driver's license. There were over 25 people in the bar who could vouch for the identity. It ended up that the bouncer was so rude that it made my friend cry. The police came and vouched for her identity and the bouncer didn't even appologize. This is not the first time that the staff seems to be on a power trip. If you are loking for friendly staff, this is not the place. It is a dive bar where you leave feeling dirty. It is a common place for sketchy people to come for a cheap drink. If you are looking to frequent the bars on University Way there are many others that offer cheap drinks and a good atmosphere. Try Finn MacCools, Irish Emmigrant, Dantes, The Duchess etc... Fremont is also very close and so much more fun!

Best Thursday nights!

This is definitely your stereotypical dive bar. It's rather dark and dingy, with lots of neon lights, and virtually no one is dressed up. You pay the cook in cash in the back and the garlic fries come in a massive platter and are to die for! You have to be especially wary of how many drinks you consume because one will have a powerful effect on even the most seasoned drinker. I have to be extra careful as I have no tolerance to alcohol! Earl's is known for its potent Long Islands which are virtually clear and bright blue AMFs--all of their drinks are extremely cheap as well. It's a great place for college students to hang out and play pool or just to meet others in the same age range.

• Pros: crowded and long line at the bar
• Cons: Amazing garlic fries and the most drink for your money

Cheap food, friendly staff, CHEAP drinks

If you want to get lit for less than $5, this is the place to go- it is the epidome of a dive bar. Almost any night of the week you find an interesting mix of college students and transients. The average drink is about $4 but has at least three shots in it. Its a great place to make new friends if you are in the 21-24 range and don't mind it being noisy and drunken. The food there is as cheap as you can ask for and just as good- pizza, chips and salsa, hamburgers, fried chicken strips. Be aware that Tursday nights you can barely move and the line can take forever.

Going to Earl's is like going to a party at your best friends house, with 300 of his closest friends you've never met. The drinks are strong and the place is always busy. The crowd is diverse and friendly. Most people come for the stiff drinks, but the atmosphere is like your living room. Friday and Saturday nights folks come to "pre-funk" before they go to thier dance clubs. One of the few bars where the average age of the customers is 23.

Strongest Drinks in Seattle

Earls provides its patrons a laid-back, comfortably trashy experience. It is arguably the best dive in the Seattle area, servicing an incredibly diverse clientele including Ave Rats, University Locals, Fraternity Boys, Sorority Girls, and Working Professionals. The atmosphere is modest and parlor games are up to snuff, but the bar's greatest feature is the stiff drinks; try the Long Island...if you can stomach it.

The Scene
Graduate students come down from the ivroy tower for the congenial atmosphere at Earl's. While it's true that regulars dominate the bar and lounge, and packs of fraternal college students have been known to roam the game area, Earl's is always friendly to newbies. With such a positive attitude, and no frills decor, it's already easy to enjoy yourself--but the stiff drinks make it even easier.

The Draw
Earls features a menu of standard pub grub with decent burgers and all things fried, but this bar is mainly a drinker's bar. Sticking to drinks isn't difficult, however, when you consider the price (cheap) and the potency (off the charts). A Maker's Mark Manhattan straight up is almost too stiff to swallow, while Long Island Ice Teas are notoriously large and intoxicating. There are only four beers on tap, but who needs the stuff when two gin and tonics go for less than $7?

Not for light-wieghts!

Their legendary Long Island lived up to it's reputation. I consider myself to be an avid consumer of alcohol, but I had a really hard time choking down one of the highest concentrations of liquor I've ever stomached. The only real downside is that it's such a popular college hang-out. The male to female ratio is falls far below proportional so I wouldn't recommend going there to meet someone. Not that you really could anyway since the place is so overcrowded.
