No tips for the server
by cm1234
Mr. Malik please show some compassion for your employees who work so hard for you and take care of your customers. When customers leave they want to show their appreciation for the great waiter or waiterss. However, if your policy does not let them keep the tip then they can not be rightly rewarded. Please please let them keep the tips.
- Pros: Good food and old name
- Cons: No tip for the servers
Great Food well worth the wait best Indian fare in Seattle
by ultron
Hands down best Indian food in Seattle is Cedars on Brooklyn Restaurant. It is crowded ('cause we love it), but the servers don't smash into you either. Long wait times are made easier by understanding that there is no reservation service at all. If you phone in you are just telling them what time you will start to wait, NOT reserving a table. My Darling Spidey and I made great conversation with others on numerous occasions while waiting in line outside, sometimes in the rain. I am not a big fan of waiting for service but understand it is easier to sit a couple or threesome faster than parties of 6 or more. We like the saag alu and the naan you can make a meal of by itself. As for the tip we leave $3.00 total, whether it's just us or a party or 12. The Owner keeps the tips because he pays the servers much more than minimum wage. It's a great place to go when there are carnivores and vegetarians both in your group. They don't cross contaminate with utensils on meat/veggies so you can rest assured you will have a true vegetarian meal.
- Pros: Excellent Food great for carnivores and vegetarians as well!
- Cons: limited parking, not for big parties
FYI: The Owner Keeps their Tips
by pakiannie
It is fairly well known in Seattle that the owner of Cedars on Brooklyn keeps the tips left by customers for himself. Staff is not permitted to discuss this policy nor are they allowed to accept cash on the side. So pay your bill and leave no tip at all. If you liked your service let the server know by saying "thanks."
Go a step further and show your disapproval of this type of practice by informing the owner the reason you've left no gratuity. And be sure to continue spreading the word.
I would probably eat here more often however I am in disagreement with restaurant owner's practice of withholding tips for himself.
- Pros: decent food
- Cons: restaurant management
WORST RESTAURANT SERVICE ,FOOD PERIOD
by shanedubier
Had to wait for a long time for a table ,Customers who came after us were seated first. We finally were given a table .It then took the waiter ages to come over to take the order, the food arrived in bits and pieces.they got most of the order wrong.and no apology was given.the chicken was stale and naan cold and hard.We mentioned this to the owner Shah Khan who just gave us a dirty look and walked away commenting something rude to his staff who burst out laughing.
Dont even bother to come to this place as it is in the final stages of its demise.
- Pros: AMBIANCE ,DECOR
- Cons: ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE.
BAD service and arrogant owner
by amama123
I was there with a bunch of indian friends, we were a bunch of ppl who were non whites. Inspite of arriving early and making a booking we were made to wait more than 30 min while other people who arrived after us were given preference as it got busy. Finally we were given a table tucked in a corner next to where they store stuff. I think the owner has a slave fixation.
- Pros: food is a good mix
- Cons: i think the owners are biased
new owner? used to be terrific but now terrible
by mugen1979
I used to love this restaurant. Service wasn't so great but food used to be really good but now it seems like a new owner has taken over.
All the food tastes differently and they taste bad.
Last time I went there not knowing that owner has been changed, I ordered a garlic nan and tandori chicken. When the nan came out, I reached for the bread and a r-0-a-c-h came out and also tandori chicken just looked so nasty. I kid you not. A restaurant with r-0-a-c-h-e-s in the kitchen... what does that tell you? DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
Don't bother - it's truly a waste of time, money and stomach space
by klcsea
What a disappointment. The new owners have been in place for 9 months, yet still the walls are bare, the lights are dim and the whole place remains cold (our obtuse waiter, when asked about heat, responded, "It's cold in here?" - never mind that most diners had their coats on and one woman even wore her wool cap). The food was average. The only notable plate was the garlic naan - it arrived hot, fluffy and with the side of tamarind/cilantro dipping sauce. Too bad - Cedar's used to be a reliable standard for Indian food.
No longer great food, but still terrible service
by nks84
I agree with the last post 100%. I have been a customer for about 4 years and despite the terrible customer service, I kept coming back because of the food. Tonight however was my last visit. The food tasted differently and did not agree with my stomach (I order the same thing every time so I attribute this to the new owner). I also found a strand of hair in my food but naively figured that it must have been mine. The waiter forgot our appetizer and some girl kept coming over and asking if we were done even though we barely had a chance to touch our food. In the end we were charged for things we never ordered. You WILL be rushed out of there every single time. Sometimes you may have to wait for a table in the pantry. Lastly, my friend is often mistaken to be of Indian heritage and is always treated much better. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
- Pros: Reasonable price
- Cons: Unbelievably terrible service, no longer good food
Poor Service & Food is no the same
by ACMilan21
I've been going to this place for many years and by far it was my favorite Indian place, but since the new Owners have taken over, it has turned upside down. My friends and I went recently and it wasn't even busy and it took FOREVER to get our food. The mango lassi's are now thin and it was served warm. A table next to us who sat AFTER we did got their food first. The Chicken Tikka was not nearly as flavorful as it once was. Another group of friends of mine experienced the same exact service and quality except they had hair in their food. I would highly recommend not coming here.
- Cons: Poor Service, Quality of Food, Constantly filling up water (no privacy) & construction
Good Food
by chubbybunnyone
This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Seattle area so far. The food has always been good, but it is always VERY crowded and parking is sometimes hard to find. It's also annoying that someone always comes by to clean the table right after you finish your food and wipes it down with a sponge while you're still sitting there at the table. I understand it helps turn tables over more quickly and clears the table if you want to order dessert, but I've always found it very rude. Other than that, I would recommend trying this place out. I've never been disappointed in the food.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Crowded, Parking may be hard to find, Long Lines, Table gets cleaned while you're still sitting there...
