A "MUST VISIT" when in Seattle!!
by mavwayfarer
yum! The best buffet ever!
nice looking place too!
I discovered this place on one of my many visits to Seattle when I lived on Orcas Isle. The corner location, the hours, the decor, the staff and best of all...the food makes this place one of my faves to "get my grub on".
Excellent late-night haven.

Flowers is a good weekend alternative to the U-District bars that fill up with college kids late at night. Wasn't offered a bar menu, don't know if there is one, but the service was great. Our bartender was friendly, courteous, and poured excellent drinks; the bar is easy to have a conversation in, for those who don't wish to shout over loud music and hollering patrons. Decent selection of beers on tap too- I would definitely come back here again.
Made me sick to my stomach....

So, I find it hard to say something bad about places, but when a place makes both me and my companion sick afterwards....
Stuff tasted 'ok' when I was eating it, but an hour later it was not so good. I am a vegetarian and can't have wheat/gluten (which I asked about before I ate)....someone was wrong about something not having wheat, either that or the food was just sooo bad (i opt for the last one since my lunch mate got sick and he has no dietary restrictions). Service was bad, overpriced for the lukewarm, overcooked, scary looking food....I could not honestly recommend this place to anyone unless I hated them. Decor was ok, but my chair was broken. Go to Araya's Vegan buffett, cheaper and so so good!
- Pros: hmmm, cool mirror ceiling
- Cons: sick to my stomach
Great Atmosphere, Decent Service, Horrible Food
by diggle
My server was attentive enough, drinks were fine. The dish I ordered was fettucini with some sort of creamy tomato sauce and clams. I could have made something that tasted like this for $5 with bottle of grocery store sauce. And fed 3 people. And had leftovers. Totally uninspired. $10.75 for the absolute worst pasta dish I have eaten at any restaurant ever. The Olive Garden is a portrait of refinement compared to this place. Granted, this is one dish on one day. Whatever, total trash.
- Pros: Ambience, Drinks
- Cons: Food
Decent

Flowers is pretty decent, but in comparison to Ruby it is great. The decor is really hip and engaging. A great place for drinks, a decent place for food.
Cheap, imaginative fare and funky decor make for hip dining on the Ave.

The Scene
This is quirky, stylish place: cobalt walls, mirrored ceilings and tables papier-mâchéd with flower mosaics (the sole hint of a long-gone flower shop). University students hang out among the occasional dreadlocked patron or leather-bound bikers. Forget pigeonholing Flowers' can't-miss menu--it's packed with refreshing, unexpected unions of Asian, European and Middle Eastern influences. Try the sampler platter's fried samosas filled with zippy potato puree, or the mammoth bowl of curry-powered Thai bouillabaisse.
Great food, less than attentive service.

I've only ever been to Flowers during the day for the vegetarian buffet. When you walk in, generally no one says anything to you, and you finally decide to seat yourself. Around that time, someone will either show up with some plates or you'll grab some for yourself from the buffet area. The service isn't particularly attentive, but the food is really good. Some of it will have been sitting out for a while, but that doesn't change the fact that it's really good and original food. Most of it seems to be either Asian or Mediterranean. The tables are all painted differently and the mirror on the ceiling makes the place a little more interesting. Go for the food, just don't expect attentive service.
- Pros: Great food, Vegetarian buffet
- Cons: Slow service
Go for the food!

I've never been at Flowers in the evening, but rather go there for the vegetarian buffet - which is absolutely excellent. If you're looking for a bar hangout, I can't imagine why you'd think of going here. But if you want good vegetarian food, definitely go. My second favorite veggie restaurant, next to Bamboo Gardens. :) I'll be visiting Flowers again and again and again and...
- Pros: great food & prices, funky ambiance, vegetarian
Some Flowers Tips
by monkeytunes
Flowers is the closest thing to a hipster bar on The Ave. Decked out in red lighting and mirrored ceilings, Flowers night patrons might need some tips for the best experience:
For best service, go with a small group and try to sit at the bar - the bartenders tend to be knowledgeable and willing to experiment with a bevy of drinks while giving you personal attention ("Need a refill, buddy?" "What to try a new drink we created?"), while the waitresses are often overworked and stressed and may leave you waiting if you're just ordering drinks. The food is delicious, but evening hours get crowded. For an early evening/late afternoon romantic dinner in the U. District, Flowers will do the job admirably.
- Pros: great bar service, excellent food, hip decor
- Cons: busy waitresses, sometimes crowded
Horrible Service
by flowers_Sucks
You would think that Flowers would learn that on friday nights, the bar gets busy and thus would staff it better, but they don't. The people are rude and unhelpful. There is even a bartender there that thinks margaritas should be orange in color. The food is mediocre with the exception of one pasta dish, but that is so big I can't eat all day if I want to order it. Stay away from Flowers if you value your sanity.
- Cons: bad service, bad drinks, bad food
