Raoul is really a pretty nice guy!

We are sorry if we offended you, that is never our intent. FYI for those shopping by phone: Some problems are straightfoward and we can give you pricing information, many others are not. It might surprise you to know that over half the vehicles that come in the shop with malfunctions have a cause different than the one the owners thought. An effective repair requires a complete inspection of the affected system. A level 1 diagnostic check buys you 1 hour of shop time at 1/2 our normal rate to get you the information you need to make an informed decision about fixing your car. It is a MUCH better approach and in the long run is usually less expensive than the blind phone quote, followed by the blind estimate and part installation. We will do our best to answer your questions, but there is a pretty good chance we will want to see your car. Why? Simply because we can do a better job for you that way.

doug and raoul are all over it. i took my 1969 vette into them last winter and they not only took care of several problems with my car, but they went the extra mile to make sure that my repairs would stand the test of time. Over the years, I've been to several local mechanics and I've been underwhelmed. Northwest Automotive is the real deal. If you have a classic car, you should drop by this shop.... they get it.

Highly recommended. Been going here for 15 plus years. Professional, knowledgable and friendly staff. Being a woman, going to a mechanic can be intimidating but I'd never felt that way here. They always provided answers and explanations to my questions on car problems. My cars rarely had any problems after a repair...the one time it did, they replaced it free of charge, even though the warranty had just expired! (the problem was due to a defective part that was NOT due to NW Auto.). Prices are about what others in the market charges. I know when I get work done there, I have a peace of mind driving afterwards.

I have been taking my cars and trucks to the professionals at NW Automotive since I discovered them 8 years ago. I would not take my precious baby to any other mechanic. There are always a lot of options when it comes to car repair but these guys are the best your going to find in Seattle. They have certified Techs and actually CARE about their customers, they remember names, send friendly reminders when the oil change is due. Try and get caring from your discount boxtop shops, or fly by oil change places. NW Automotive has made me feel like I have my own family mechanic, someone I can trust and talk to about serious things, like HorsePower and Torque, as well as the regular oil changes. I always get an accurate estimate with everything my car needs done. I've used their pick up and drop off service, the driver was friendly, polite, knew all about my repair and spoke with me about it on the way to my house. The repairs and replacements done here are the best modern technology and years of experience can make them. This is one shop where when you get something fixed, nothing else breaks a few days later and the origional problem STAYS fixed. I've never had a problem here, unlike other shops who don't care about anything but your money and as much as they can get. The work is quality, and you will not pay any more than you would other places. In this world you do get what you pay for, and I'll always choose the piece of mind that paying for the level of quality car repair and customer service that NW Automotive gives. If you want substandard service and repairs on the cheap, don't go here.

Pros: Quality Repairs, Friendly Service Techs, Awesome followup and professionalism

Cons: Traffic can get bad during UW Sporting events or Graduation.

After paying about $50 to find out that we needed just under $1000 in repairs, we took the car to our trusted hometown mechanic up North. After he completed the job for $561, he told us that Northwest Automotive had been accurate in diagnosing the trouble with the radiator, but padded the estimate with unecessary things like a $75 coolant flush when the coolant would have been flushed out as a result of the work associated with replacing the radiator anyways. Bottomline, great place to go if you want to pay a premium for unnecessary and non-existent repairs!

Please do not confuse thorough with unscrupulous

This customer was quoted for and approved a $48.00 level 1 diagnostic check. For this they received a thorough cooling system inspection that included a visual check, operational check, pressure test, electrical test of the fan and a block integrity test to make sure the head gaskets or other internal components had not failed since the car had overheated. We do this kind of inspection to make sure that of customer has all the information possible before they decide to initiate a repair. That way you do not find out your car needs head gaskets AFTER your radiator gets installed. The $69.00 coolant flush was recommended because over 60% of the coolant sits in the engine when the radiator is replaced. This is the same toxic, acidic coolant that killed the first radiator and will promptly flow into the new one as soon as the engine is started. The "padding" of the estimate would be the OPTION that the customer was given to replace their leaking water pump and 11 year old water hoses.

I have take my vehicles here for years. The staff is helpful, thorough, capable, and knowledgable. If you ever have issues, bring you car here. While it is a little more expensive than a discount shop, the value of what you get for your dollar far exceeds the drawback of of a slightly higher cost. When I bring my car here I know that it will be done right the first time, and that will save me alot more $$$ down the road than a coupon.

Pros: Smart, Efficient, Excellect Value

Cons: none

My experience with NW automotive has been great. The owner trully listens to what you say, and works with your needs and your cars. Most of the repair people are master certified and have been repairing cars for years. I would recommend this repair shop to anyone who wants a job well done.

Pros: Friendly, Helpful, good work

Cons: no waiting room

Response from this business

Very accurate and objective

This person is correct that we do not have a waiting room. You can go for a walk to University Village, Ravenna Park or up the Burke Gilman Trail or drop your car for the day. We can also get you a ride where you want to go within 5 miles. Thank you for your business.

Mechanics here don't know how to repair a car at all. Whenever there is a problem with a part in a car (three times for me), they will let me replace the part instead of repairing it. Once upon a time, they told me to replace a part in my car, which would cost about $500. But, finally, I have my car fixed in another autoshop with only $100. Do consider to see other autoshops when they tell you to replace expensive parts in your car!

It's OK to let us know directly if you are unhappy.
Posted on 08/03/2006
I don't remember you but I wish that you would have contacted me directly if your were unhappy. Often times there is more than one way to approach a repair on a car. Our policy is to opt for the best, permanent, safe fix possible. If you really found a shop that did a comparable, safe and proper repair for 1/5 of what we were going to charge you, bring me the reciepts and documentation and I'd be happy to talk to you. Thank you for your feedback.
