Best pub lunch in Ballard

by MrMikeN

I work in Ballard and was one of the first customers for lunch when Steve opened Bad Albert's 13 years ago.

I love the food. But I do miss the shrimp poorboy and the oyster poorboy sandwiches. I highly recommend the Chicken Albert's with garlic mashed potatoes on Wednesday lunch special. The soups here are to die for. I've tryed them all and every one of them is delicious but my favorites are the Tortilla soup, Andouille Sausage & bean soup and Tomato soup. The Friday night Prime Rib special is excellent and a perfect lead-in to the live blues music. Ive never been there for the breakfast on the weekend but have heard nothing but good things about it. Great place, great staff. Kudos to Brian and Mary on lunch duty and Steve is super cool, always chatting and joking with every customer.

This is a good place to go and touch base with real down to earth people and strike up a conversation on the latest topics over a nice cold draft.

  • Pros: great selection

Best burger!

by hekmanwagoner

IMO the Dock Street Burger is absolutely the best burger in Seattle. Hand formed patty, white cheddar cheese, two bacon slices, and dill pickles. YUM!! For those on low carb diets they now offer a bunless version of the burger on the menu.

Breakfast is good to very good. My only complaint is the potatoes at breakfast are mediocre.

If it was a non-smoking joint I would move in!

The only thing lacking was a good happy hour/appetizer menu. They recently remedied that by adding a good happy hour selection.

Tucked away on Ballard Ave - Albert's brewing a multitude of beers, a full bar and a better than pub-grub menu.

by Contributor

The Scene
Deep in the heart of Ballard's old business district, this remodeled, single-room pub brings to mind the Garth Brooks song about "friends in low places." Despite its name, Bad Albert ain't that bad after all. Social status aside, Albert's welcomes all types: Hard working locals and yuppies unite. Plop down on a stool at one of the many tall tables or slide into a chair at a low table.

The Draw

Besides the usual pint-accompanying fare, the menu includes treats like pan-roasted mussels, fried oysters, pot stickers, buffalo wings and even cheese blintzes, all sizzled up at the open kitchen in the back of the room. The lip-smacking oyster po' boy is a good way to soak up some of those pints of brew. The tavern offers 14 taps (nine craft brews, Guinness Stout and three North American megabrews) and some tasty pub food.

shhh!!! let's keep it a secret!!!

by trevoria

I'm hesitant to give them the review they deserve because what makes this place so perfect could be ruined by having too many people...

Low key and friendly, with amazing service, fabulous food ---no argument, it's the best burger you'll eat in Seattle and we highly recomend the weekend breakfast--- and it's so clean!!!

  • Pros: great service, low key
  • Cons: weak drinks

Way better than average 'bar food'

by Seattle_Todd

I've eaten here COUNTLESS times almost since they opened. I don't work in the area like I used to so go less frequently but still go out of the way when I'm visiting friends. The food is GREAT bar food. Somewhat imaginative and different but also excelling at the 'common' things. Their burger, for instance, is one of the best at any bar. Don't miss the cajun crawfish, either. If you live in the area be sure to check out their weekend breakfasts. Spectacular. Dungeness crab and artichoke eggs benedict? Yum! I'm giving it a 9 for food judging against other bars and pubs. The ambience is a little bland IMO but certainly not terrible. I'd eat here any time but it wouldn't be my choice for having a few pints unless I lived very close. Bottom line is GREAT bar food.

  • Pros: Excellent bar food, Mostly good service, Great breakfast
  • Cons: Undecided ambience

Awesome food!

by Modern_Driver

Bad Albert's has the best cheeseburger I've ever had. They use Vermont white Cheddar and their own sauce, and hand-cut fries. The Caesar dressing is homemade, as is just about everything else. The cajun sandwhich and the Bistro are indescribably delicious. This was the last stop on my road trip--best cheeseburger, chicken fried steak (Mondays) and best dinner. It rocks!

  • Pros: Delicious food, homemade, perfect
  • Cons: not enough tables
