Bigger and Better in Ballard

Everything is better in Ballard. That is my new motto, and if you don't like it you can GTFO, haters. Nothing better than wandering around the gnarly misty streets and coming upon a cute little cafe. What I like about this place, is the few times I've visited, I've managed to miss the lunch rush. Luck! Seriously, Ballard rocks my socks so hard that I literally make up excuses to drive or bus myself out here. Yes, there is another Other Coast location much much closer to me, but I just like the employees at this one better.
This place is yet another reason why I love this 'hood. Small and unassuming, it packs a punch! Last time I was here they were mopping the floors and everything was in total disarray, yet they still managed to make my sammie in a timely manner.
Last time I dined here, I tried the Please No Meat sandwich sans mayo. It was so good. One of the best veggie sandwiches I've had in a while. It fell apart all over the damn place, making it a bit more like a salad that I had to eat with my hands....Otherwise, yum! Another good one is The Dybwad....Maybe I only like it because if it's name, I dunno....But the roast beef is so tender and tasty that I half expected the sandwich to look me in the eye and say MOO.
The music they play here sometimes makes me want to attack someone, though.

I am sad to write this review, because Other Coast has been one of my favorites for sandwiches in Seattle for years. I love sandwiches. At Other Coast I got hooked on the vegan rueban. (I'm not vegan, it's just a really good sandwich). It had been a few months since I'd been there, so yesterday I called in an order, made a trip to the ATM, drove to Ballard, and picked up my sandwich. I was a little surprised to find that it was $9.00 for a HALF sandwich (on regular-sized sandwich bread), I can't recall if that's how much it's always been. Even for a really good sandwich, that's pretty steep. But sadly it was not the really good sandwich I used to love, it was terrible! I took a bite of my measly little sandwich, and the bread was so dry that it was like biting into a crouton. And all of the seitan and sauerkraut were so dried out and crunchy that it sounded like I was eating potato chips. I thought maybe it would get better once I got past the dried-out edge of the sandwich. Nope. The whole sandwich had the consistency jerky between old stale bread with a smear of spicy mustard. Horrible. If I wasn't in a hurry and starving I would have gone back in to see if they could try again. I will not be back. I'm incredibly irritated that I wasted $9 and the calories on something so inedible it didn't qualify as lunch.

LOve this place. I moved but still make the drive to get my Other Coast Fix. Bring cash! No credit cards here. If you forget they have an ATM. Craving an east coast sub. This is the place!!

Great but overpriced sandwiches served on average bread. Service can be very poor.

East coast sandwiches, west coast attitude? Does this require the attitude to be bad? I have to level with you: I live a block away from The Other Coast, so I used to frequent it with friends or when I wanted to stay outta the kitchen for dinner. Some of the combinations are great with the toasted Ragin' Cajun capturing my heart (although these sandwiches can be excessively browned-even when the place is not busy). My motivation to write this review though, is to comment on the customer service; I refuse to go to this cafe anymore. I'm not sure whether it's the icy and inhospitable counter help or the general feel that a customer is keeping some of the employees from better things that sets me off more. I once waited here an extra twenty minutes with a friend because we didn't hear our name called ( it was loud and busy) and only a shrug of the shoulders was offered as a resolution when we left with our overpriced and cold sandwich. Is this really north west attitude? Do people really feel like they need to reward poor service just because a place is locally owned? I really have no problem thinking about this as I now walk to Fremont to get a sandwich from Paseo.
WAY too much mayanaise!

I ordered a sub with chipotle mayo as a condiment. What I received was an average roll with some meat and (literally) about 3/4 cups of mayanaise. This was disgusting. Try another place.

Transplant from the east coast? Missing a really great sub? Come on down. It's your turn to try the best sub in town. My boyfriend told me about this place and now I have to have to have it. Call ahead and they will have them waiting for you. This place is hopping on the weekends. Space is limited to eat in so be prepared to get them to go. Enjoy and bring cash. Say hi to Dave the owner. Tell him he should consider moving to a larger space so more people can eat in.

Their yummy sandwiches piled high with meat just makes my mouth water. Don't go there for the atmosphere.. it's usually crowded and there's nowhere to sit. Also, if you plan on going there around lunchtime, make sure you call your order in ahead of time and just take it out! Highly recommended!

After eating at Salumi, this deli was a disappointment. I appreciate their effort, but I walked out with 2 thoughts: Ouch on the wallet, and the bread needs work.

This is about as close to a New York style deli as this city is likely to get. The sandwiches are huge and really good. It's good classic deli style meat and it's not very expensive. Try it out.
