When you're in the mood for an innovative menu

by ParticleBry

First off this is near the top of expensive worthwhile dining in seattle. This is the place you go when youre in the mood for extremely quality ingredients assembled into flavor combinations you would not expect. In that the chef does a fantastic job. The menu is printed every day with the catch of the day and the chef's choices. The setting is quaint and romatic. I would recommend reservations and nice attire.

  • Pros: food, service
  • Cons: expense

Come at 10pm & you'll be satisfied!

by langstonsmama

A much needed date night for me and my SO -- we have two little ones 3 and under so if we get a chance to get out, we try to live it up! In was a gorgeous day in Seattle so outdoor seating was a MUST! We decided on McCormick's on Lake Union. We were pleasantly surprised....the hostess, he was very pleasant and seated us on the deck quickly! Lovely! Our waiter, he was SO SO that's why I only gave 4 stars. He mentioned feeling sick so he kept forgetting what we asked for him for but we were in no rush so it wasn't a big deal. We were enjoying the ambience. It was about 9:30pm and we were told Happy Hour started at 10:00pm so we just sipped our tasty drinks until then. Once 10pm struck - we ordered the cheapest (they were all cheap $2 - 5) and quite delicious appetizers! The Ahi Tuna rolls were excellent... I love red pepper and never get that with my rolls so I was pleased. We also ordered dinner! Dinner was average - I had the macadamia crusted halibut and my SO the crab/brie stuffed salmon. Both were average in taste... but we then ordered the Happy Hour dessert of Hazelnut Mousse which was really quite good. I think the Happy Hour appetizers/dessert, drinks and the outdoor seating make this a place we will return to. Honestly, we will probably skip dinner next time -- prices were pretty steep for an average meal. We had a wonderful evening....and we'll be back - at 10pm!

  • Pros: The greatest Happy Hour (10pm), wonderful outdoor seating, pleasant hostess...
  • Cons: Food was high priced and average, paying for parking is never fun!

Bad service, Too expensive

by poundingsurf

Everytime I go here, the service gets worse. The drinks are overpriced and the food ..... well just forget it, I would prefer a can of tuna over the cold salmon sliver I was served. Saw the kitchen staff smoking outside, Not going back.

  • Pros: Easy access to the nearest exit
  • Cons: food, smoking cooks, parking

Excellent for Large Party Accommodations

by kristenwastaken

I would highly recommend McCormicks for large party reservations! My office has about 15 people in it and I was in charge of our company "happy hour" in which I needed to reserve a room. Our other plans had dropped the DAY OF and I had to book a private room for only 6 hours from then! McCormicks catering planner, Rasa, was a great help and even pulled a few strings for me to lower the minimum a bit because our party was relatively small. Unlike the Icon Grill hostess that picked up and laughed at me for trying to get day-of reservations. I will never go there again; I don't know about you, but I don't appreciate being laughed at no matter how ridiculous the request.

Thanks to Rasa everything went very smoothly! The room was perfect and very impressive! The lighting was just right for a corporate "mixer" and the apps and drinks were excellent. Our server (I wish I would have gotten her name!) was very sweet and helpful! Definately would tell my friends/go again.

  • Pros: Three stories or so; very much a place to take someone you want to impress. Staff was very friendly and professional
  • Cons: A bit expensive, but you wouldn't expect a place like that to be cheap! Paying for parking is never a plus.

Leaves a salty taste in my mouth, but I keep coming back.

by seattlenativeconcierge

I keep going back and hoping for something different but never leave 100% satisfied. My first visit was so awful, they've comp-ed me ever since. The food is hit-or-miss. Stick with the sandwiches at their Westlake property and have a seafood dinner at the downtown location - which has the best "McCormick's" food in Seattle. The Westlake property is beautiful and has a great brunch though. If you want to show your out-of-towners a beautiful view and eat a good brunch, go to Westlake. If you want to have them taste a good meal at dinner-time, go downtown. They haven't given up on me so I'm not giving up on them.

Worst Dining Experience in Seattle

by rainbowgirl47

I admit, I can't be a good reviewer for McCormick & Schmick's because I'm not a seafood eater, but my dad can. My family and I went there on a weeknight and were seated at an old booth with ripped and torn apart seats. My mom and I ordered burgers, well done. What we got instead was a black, burnt piece of meat. I forced myself to eat it and was very disappointed in the service and the fact that the food quality was so poor, even though we were the only customers. How on earth can someone mess up a burger?

My dad's dish was a disaster. He ordered combination seafood but what he got was a bowl of salty Italian "shrimp" smothered in cheese. We ended up paying a huge bill and left disappointed and hungry.

  • Pros: Umm...
  • Cons: Terrible atmosphere, burnt and overpriced food

Clubby corporate restaurant draws seafood lovers with fresh daily catches and posh atmosphere.

by Contributor

In Short
Upscale and sophisticated, this chain features art deco-inspired trappings such as dark wood, shiny brass and beveled glass. Servers clad in black and white weave through cocktailing couples and businessmen at the bar. The classic American, seasonally inspired seafood menu changes daily; specialties include starters of Dungeness crab cakes and oysters on the half shell, plus entrees like cedar plank-roasted salmon, sauteed lobster with scallops and rock shrimp, and seared yellowfin tuna with wasabi, soy and ginger.

Great Happy Hour!

by mc17

This is the place I go for happy hour. The menu prices are super low. You can get a cheeseburger and fries for $1.99! I opt for the crabcake burger though which is $3.99. I can never finish it though. The mussels in the red curry is my favorite thing. They don't always offer it on their happy hour menu, but they should. The atmosphere is nice. I love the location right by the water. Service is good.

  • Pros: great happy hour

Great value for the food I ate - nice staff

by mkadlec

I was impressed with the view and the food was delicious, and when I received the bill (after using the Entertainment book coupon), I was shocked at how LOW the bill was! They even gave me a free dessert since it was my birthday, very impressed.

  • Pros: view, value, food
  • Cons: cheesy decor

Just Plain Bad

by bbmtngirl1

Nice setting, beautiful view. Ordered lobster which ended up being under cooked. Could not even cut tail meat with a knife. Snow crab was also ordered and the shell on the legs were soft and would not crack, the meat was very fishy tasting. Both were sent back. Credited for both, but had to pay for a re-ordered meal. Manager treated us like we had never eaten lobster before and waiter was not very friendly. We still had a good time even though we were treated that way.
