Keeping it Country

by GreenlakeResident2

Assuming you avoid Wednesday nights [Frat-Karaoke], then this place is an amazing dive bar. If you grab a couple friends, want to drink an American beer, and listen to country music while talking in hushed voices, this place is *amazing*.

  • Pros: Dancing; darkness; awesomeness

Wildest Seattle karaoke I've seen

by bigsexyguy

I thought it would be all twangy country music here but was pleasantly surprised that all kinds of music are sung here. A big stage, fun, young crowd and cheap drinks, what more could you want? Place gets packed by about 11, I came early so I could sing a little more. The DJ plays dance music between singers which keeps things moving. Wednesday is the big night here although they just started a Monday night karaoke show too.

  • Pros: WIld Wednesday karaoke, fun and lively crowd
  • Cons: Gets crowded by 11

Rude and Grumpy

by Partyjessica

Wednesday nights have gone down hill. that 6ft. 5 friendly door guy is gone. WHY did they let him go? He was the only friendly face and the first one you see when you go in. He welcomed you and always encouraged everyone to have good time. The guy now at the door is a rude and very unfriendly. Was that a customer service move.. to get a rude guy at the door to greet paying customers? Bring back the big guy!

The 2 bartenders? The dark haired one is tooooo busy trying to be cute so she is way to slow. She works Tuesday nights also and getting a drink when her friends are there is impossible.

Weekend bartenders are kinda grumpy and bitchy and again where is the big friendly guy at the door. Makes ya wonder when they keep rude, grumpy people and get rid of friendly, nice staff. Are they trying to loose business.

Find a new place to do your Kareoke!

GOOD TIMES!

by Jessica04

I have been coming here for the past 4 years. The new owners have cleaned the place up and finally got rid of the unfriendly beast on wheels bartender! Now they have replaced with two women that serve em up fast. It used to take at least 20 minutes to stand in line to get a drink. Karaoke host Nathan has gone on to pursue his music. The new host is good but definitely not as much fun to look at. LOTS of 20 somethings and a handful of older (40s) regulars. Good times, good sound system and dance music is bumping throughout in between singers. Friendly doorman all 6'5" of him! Come check it out!

  • Pros: Cozy, friendly beautiful people!
  • Cons: SUPER crowded if you dont get there early

The Hen

by pattapit

I started coming here when i turned 21 in 2002. I have been a regular for a long time, but not even half of how long Connie has worked there. She is a mainstay as well known as Michelle at Earls on the Ave. And unfortunately the new ownership does not want to stay going in a direction taht involves her. My buddies and I that have been going there for years will no longer. We will stay awy from there like the plague.

  • Pros: was a great bar
  • Cons: NO CONNIE

Authentic country bar is loads of fun, even if you can't tell Hank Williams Sr. from Jr.

In Short
Burgundy leather chairs and booths lend an old-style feel to this unassuming Greenlake bar featuring classic country music, dancing and karaoke. Patrons are mostly down-to-earth, with a smattering of college kids on weekends. Drinks and food are as straight-forward as the atmosphere. Towering burgers, homemade soups, triple-decker sandwiches and a chef salad are typical fare. Breakfast offerings include chicken fried steak, omelettes and steak and eggs.

Better than American Idol

by rachelbug2781

If you were thinking about staying home Wednesday night to watch TV, think again! The Little Red Hen or as regulars call it, "the HEN" is the place to be, and packs more entertainment value than anything you're going to see on channel 5.

  • Pros: great atmosphere, wingman not required
  • Cons: one bartender

I Heart "The Hen"

by paigeleeds

Come down to "The Hen," leave your ego behind, bring your friends, and do a little kareoke on a Wednesday night. Pick an up-beat song (or sing a good balad) and people will dance to you. The drinks are reasonable, and the food is pub food (so don't expect a lot from it, kay?). The atmostphere has the feel of a cozy old bar that your grandpa would approve of if he smoked, liked wiskey, and liked country music.

Most nights, the Hen has live country music, but on Wednesday nights, it is packed with the old regulars who will buy you a drink, and the young, fun, upstarts who can rap the hell out of "Baby Got Back."
