Much better than Spuds!
by chaig at Citysearch
Sunfish is so much better than Spuds, the fish was cooked perfectly, the oysters were very fresh, not like the frozen tasteless oysters at Spuds, clam chowder was good although I didn't get a lot of clams in mine, my least favorite was the prawn. They also have good looking salads, too! I will not ever go back to Spuds after having found this place.
- Pros: Fresh seafood
- Cons: parking
Perfect Clam Chowder
by djolly at Citysearch
I've always been a Spud's fan, love the chowder and french fries. Then I read some good reviews on Sunfish, so I had to run down and try it today. Spud's vs Sunfish. The chowder was exceptional! It had so many full clams in there, I was in clam heaven and didn't want my large bowl to end. The fish wasn't greasy, it was lightly battered and delicious. Unfortunately the french fries were undercooked and slightly cold, but everything else was so good that it made up for it. Regarding the grumpy service I also read about, I found it more amusing than upsetting. Just giving him a smile and a comment about his picture on the wall and I got a warm smile and fish delivered directly to my table. He seemed like a softy underneath that furrow.
The only Fish and Chips you'll ever need.

I first went here on the recommendation of my boss (a foodie) who raved about their calamari. Their calamari is still my favorite on the menu, although I like the fried oysters, too. I went to Spuds up the street once and it absolutely doesn't compare. The only people who go to Spuds are the ones who haven't discovered Sun Fish yet!
- Pros: Delicious seafood.
- Cons: Greek brothers who own the place can be grumpy sometimes...but you get used to it.
Nostalgia.

I was nine days old the first time I went to Sunfish, back at their old Fauntleroy shop -- needless to say, I didn't eat much fish that day. I've been coming here for every birthday and random occasions ever since. Get the cod and chips, they're the best. The chowder and prawns are also amazing. Beats Ivar's and Spuds, hands down.
Best Fish and Chips on Alki
by rgmcca at Citysearch
When I was first learning to swim in the Alki Natatorium, the Spud became my favorite F&C. After the original owner died their quality went downhill and I began a search of that childhood memory of good F&C. It took a lot of years, but I found it! The Sunfish has as good quality F&C as the Spud ever had and it has become our favorite, including my wife, children and grandchildren.
Sunfish is hands down the best!

If cooking with love is a crime then these guys are the Public Enemy Numbers One and Two. From the spotless restaurant to the hand prepared fish, Sunfish is a fish and chip lovers delight. Go there and before you order ask the people standing in line what they think of Sunfish. You'll here words like "Fantastic, Inspired and Awesome" just to name a few. Most of them will be long-time repeat customers, some who travel quite a ways to enjoy the simple yet sumptuous dishes Sunfish has to offer. If you want straight ahead no-nonsense fish and chips you won't find anything better than Sunfish Fish and Chips. Enjoy!
- Pros: reasonable prices, uses only veggie oil, all hand prepared
Simple, no-frills fish and chips on Alki beach.

In Short
Located on the farthest reaches of busy Alki Avenue, where the traffic starts to wane and the crowds start to thin, the restaurant is often overlooked. Try the fish kebabs, speared chunks of grilled halibut and veggies. The fried fish is offered as single pieces or as combos, and has a crumbly batter. Picnic tables outdoors are a rare commodity in the summer months.
Disappointed

After reading the two, count'm two, glowing reviews here and hearing it was the BEST in the area from locals, we tried the Sunfish for the standard F 'n' C lunch. Very disappointed to find the fish tasteless, mediocre. anonymous - could have been anything.
Chips were skinny & limp. HOWEVER, it was cheap, so I guess we shouldn't have expected anything more. Just typical fast food.
NW gal loves Sunfish fish

Sun fish has the best best fish, fresh, perfectly coated and fried to perfection. Their chips are hot and the tartar sauce worth fighting over! They make their own spicy and flavorful vinegars. Incredible and worth every calorie!

Around the world, Michael & Peter make the best halubut & chips with their Greek magic. They hand cut each piece themselves. We have eaten there at least once a week since the old days when they were located up on Fauntleroy. Always served fresh, hot and incredible. I was a sworn Spuds fan, but this is impossible to beat. Load it up with tartar and garlic vinegar... Wow!
- Pros: Fresh, Awesome, Go now!
