Just Fabulous!

by rachelflorene at Citysearch

I found the Kubota Gardens on City Search. I read the other reviews and then checked out the garden's website. It looked like a fun/free outing so I took my Grandma (who is wheelchair bound), my Mom and my cousin having never been there before. It was beautiful, we had a wonderful time admiring the variety of plants, trees and flowers, the color contrasts were amazing. We will definitely go again!

As my cousin and I are both photographers, we would reccommend this place for wedding or engagement photos.

  • Pros: Easy access for wheelchairs

This 20-acre Japanese garden, complete with waterfalls and babbling brooks, offers peace and solitude for the weary soul.

The Experience
The best thing about this garden is that few people seem to have discovered it. Even on a balmy Saturday afternoon, only a handful of folks are taking refuge amidst the peaceful streams, waterfalls and ponds. Begin your exploration with a leisurely stroll through the Japanese garden and Tom Kubota Stroll Garden, then hike up the mountainside to the Lookout, where you'll perch atop a waterfall for a spectacular panoramic view of the gardens.

The Background
Fujitaro Kubota created the garden in 1927 to display the beauty of the Northwest in a Japanese manner. In 1981, the garden was declared a Historical Landmark--thus salvaging it from developers. It was opened to the public in 1987, after being acquired by the City of Seattle.

kubota garden

a beautiful waterfall

meanders through it

Really enjoyed walking through this place. Lots of good sitting areas for thinking or whatever else you might fancy...

  • Pros: pretty empty, different routes, diversity of plants
  • Cons: close to main roads, seems a bit small, inaccessable areas

PLEASANT PLACE

by JANINEALLINSON at Citysearch

Quiet, seems smaller than 20 acres. It's a nice place to walk around. It only took about a half hour to go through the whole place.

  • Pros: Beautiful, Fragrant, Good parking
  • Cons: Neighborhood
