Never expected that.......

by crupp76

There was paper, like a cheese slice with a big piece of wax paper attached, and yes, they didn't make me pay for the cheeseburger.... but that's it? No apology from the manager??

  • Pros: It's a great place to take kids
  • Cons: There was paper in my food

A kid-friendly neighborhood bar with good food.

by Contributor

In Short
On most nights, toddlers run underfoot as their parents enjoy a beer and locals warm the bar stools. This corner bar is lined with windows; the booths are best to quaff one of the 15 draft brews while watching passersby. Choices range from a mushroom burger to smoked salmon fettucine. Cheesy pizzas, sandwiches and fresh-cut fries round out the bar food, while pastas and land-and-sea specials are menu mainstays.

Great for Young Children

by pickleprune

I enjoy taking my kids here because there's a small play area with toys (near the fireplace so kids do need to be watched carefully) to keep the youngin's busy while the food is prepared. Friendly staff. Things get a bit loud on Friday evenings simply because the place draws a fairly large crowd. Great during the summer because the windows open wide providing lots of air flow. I'd recommend.

  • Pros: great food, friendly staff, fireplace
  • Cons: loud, a bit pricey

Great neighborhood pub

by milolutz

Great pub atmosphere, plus you can bring your kids. It's only open evenings, though, so it's not always convenient. Still, the staff is great and the food is fine. I'd recommend it.

  • Pros: bartender, staff, beer
  • Cons: hours, prices, noisy

This place is a neighborhood favorite- excellent location and decent food. What keeps us coming back, though, is the service and atmosphere. The waitstaff and the bartender are terrific Really friendly and welcoming-- and it shows given the diversity of the clientele. Our only complaints: the portions are small, the prices are high for what you get, and they really need to be open on Saturday & Sunday afternoons.

  • Pros: service, bartender, location
  • Cons: prices, small portions, no weekend pm's

Madrona Eatery is the Best

by mysticcat00

The Madrona Eatery and Ale House is a great place to go and eat/drink/relax. The waitstaff is very friendly, and always moving. The food is excellent both in quality and diversity. The Ale House Burger is a MUST, especially with the grilled onion. The Hummus Plate is also a must with grilled pita, yummy hummus, greek olives and feta cheese adorning the plate.

Bye Bye Bad Chef!

by Timkubly

Thank you so much for getting rid of that terrible chef. The last two were wonderful i don't know what the owner was thinking when they hired the grumpy old guy. I'm glad things are back to normal we will come more often.

  • Pros: beer & wine menu, wait staff, big screen
  • Cons: your old guy chef, the tall bartender, the smelly mens room

GREAT SERVICE

by dd_turner

My family has frequented the Ale House weekly for the past year. There have been several changes made, some great, some not so great. Overall it is always a friendly place to go with great service, concidering the kids running around the servers feet while they deliver food. The new menu is excellent, however don't try and make a substitution of any kind. Not only will the server be reluctant to ask the chef, if they actually do make the request, seconds later you will hear the slamming of pans coming from the kitchen due to the chef's anger. He always seems very nice when speaking to customers but when watching his interactions in the kitchen and reactions to servers you can tell this is a horse of a different color. Bravo to the servers for putting up with loud kids and an even louder kid in the kitchen.

  • Pros: atmosphere, beer, service

Mercury In Retrograde?

by Faith

What is going on here? I heard a rumor that some negative reviews had been posted about one of my favorite restaraunts. I think the new chef's menu is the best one around in years and judging from the number of people coming in the door they must think so to. The wait staff are all pleasant and amazingly patient with children and the bartender is always kind and laid-back (nice after a long day of work.) Keep up the good work, guys!
