MISLED
by jmclaytonii
I went ready to hear a band that The Stranger recommened. Instead, I could even SEE the band. A bunch of weirdos did a half circle around the band and I could see ANYTHING! Plus, the band obviously had a problem with the drummer as they were asking for anyone the crowd if they were a drummer and had an key. Geez! Also, the bar was out of so many beers they had to explain to so many people what else was leff of the cheaper beers. The opening band was TERRIBLE. Now I understand that this is no quality place to hear music, just a place to drink whatever beer and listen to loud noise. I highly recommend AGAINST this place.
- Pros: none
- Cons: weirdos
A classic dive bar
by SeattleBen76
The Comet Tavern has a rich history of great bands and loyal customers. Mama Casserole does an excellent job of booking quality bands. If you want to see a good show, but you don't have much cash, this is the best place in Seattle to do so. $4 - $6 will get you 3 or 4 fun bands who are eager to please the hardworking DIY crowd.
My favorite thing about the bar is the vibe. It is unpretentious and hip all at the same time. Cheap drinks and good times can be had by all any night of the week at this classic Capitol Hill icon.
- Pros: prices, music and vibe
- Cons: the patrons can be a bit cliquish
great place...wrong employees
by cpbear
I really enjoy this place, but there are a couple of guys working there which have been acting in a prepotent way
now its been two times..
that is really bad for such a great place... and if you ask who this is...just go there and look for the "doorguy"
- Pros: the place...location
- Cons: employees attitude
Good Memories
by dryfor20plus
I once was a regular at the Comet and my best memory was when I bought somethig from a new bartener named Jason He didn't bring me the correct change and I told him the fact and he didn't agree. I said that I wouldn't bicker and ask him to ask the owner to check the books at the end of the day. Next time I was in he was tending bar and produced the correct change and I thank him. I hadn't seen him in quite some time and stop drinking and stoped going to the bars. Working swing shift I would tune into the late night show and to my amazement he was playing the drums.Hey I havn't tied one on in over twenty years and Damn I'm proud of myself. I'm sure you are too . Thanks for not giving me the treatment. The girls are beautiful and I miss all of you . Thanks for the memories. I did this over and realized "No good Grammer no good speller" sorry. To the pretty blond I'm sorry I thought you were calling me a snibling nut. It was pionted out to me what you really said. Damn I'm fool.
ambience is what you make it here...

So naturally bad-ass, you want to cry.
Beer tastes better here.
Bling falls off like old skin.
Music blares you king.
And conversations don't even need words...
Great place to see a show
by jellomonkey
The Comet is a venue without pretense. There's a bar with some beer taps, a few chairs, some pool tables, and a stage. The crowd is very diverse depending on who's playing - you're likely to see Enimem wannabees moshing with glammed up transsexuals. Is that a bad thing? That depends on your personality. Are you the type of person that craves attention and likes to stand out? It will take a LOT at the Comet to stand out from the crowd, so be warned.
Great service, great place to watch people, and if you love the local music scene this is the place to see some awesome, awesome bands in their infancy.
- Pros: Great music
- Cons: It is a dive bar so it smells bad in there
A comfortable neighborhood dive that feels like an old T-shirt you just can't bear to throw out.

In Short
The dark and well-worn interior attracts a broad cross-section of locals. It wouldn't be unusual to see some of the Comet's original customers (circa 1948) hanging out at the bar guzzling beer next to local 30-somethings. While they might be confused by the pinball and video games sequestered in an upstairs loft, they would likely feel at home playing pool or congregating around one of the many tables.
The Comet Is The Best!
by angieray71367
The bartenders are the best anywhere! Put that with a great beer selection, Wednesday Night Karaoke, and the coolest crowd to ever assemble in one place and you get the Comet!
- Pros: The Crowd, The Bartenders, Value
- Cons: None
Comet Tradition
by skummie
I live in Kansas City now, but have lived in Seattle a couple of times, in the early 90's and most recently for a year 2000-2001. The Comet was by far my favorite bar on my first stay, and even more so on my second. I just recently went back to Seattle for a visit, and most of my nights ended up at my old favorite haunt. It hasn't changed a bit (except they occasionally have live music now). Good mixed crowd of people, all about the beer, and that dreamy Mike Roney (sp?) behind the bar brought me back to 1990 and watching Friday play pool.
personification of "Dive Bar"
by TheBison
The Comet is the personification of the phrase "Dive bar", that being said it is one of my favorite places to drink at in Seattle.
I've always had good service from the bar staff, true it is dirty but if you want luxurious carpets, expensive wine and romantic lighting than the Comet is not your place.
If you're looking for a rock n roll type dive bar than try the Comet, you'll like it.
